In Spain, the estancos (tobacconists) sell stamps. We tried that in Andorra and failed miserably, but were directed to the tourist information office on the Plaça de la Rotonda, which sells both stamps and postcards.

If you've run out of reading material, this is a good place to try. Not only do they have Spanish/Catalan books on the ground floor, upstairs they have a small selection of French and English language fiction as well.

Driving to Andorra in 1994 I was attacked by numerous advertisings which reminded me many times that Andorra was a tax free area. Indeed, it is currently a prosperous country mainly because of tourism and its status as a tax haven. Andorra is not a full member of the European Union, but enjoys a special relationship with it, such as being treated as an EU member for trade in manufactured goods (no tariffs) and as a non-EU member for agricultural products. Andorra has no own currency. It uses euros.
In Andorra la Vella there are hundreds "tax free shops" which offers the same staff in each, especially along main street called Avinguda Meritxell.
What to buy: Electronics, watches as well as customary high taxed in Europe booze, cigarettes and parfums (add gas/petrol) are offered in many tax free shops. Urszula found some great looking shoes and surely her most wanted caps/huts - all expensive.
What to pay: Tax free shops offer goods often at the same price as in France or Spain. Well, as I was told, electronics and first of all booze is still less expensive than in neigbouring Spain and France.

Andorra used to be a place for shopping for a very good price. Today is almost the same compared with Spain.
Remember in January, February and July Andorra is on clerance, best season for shopping.
Electronics and food are still in a good price all year.

Alcohol prices are EXCELLENT all over A-la-V. Recommend you stock up as much as you can. :-))
What to buy: Alcohol, definitely.
Perfume and clothes prices are pretty much the same as the EU, so unless you spot a real bargain, dont bother.
What to pay: Got a bottle of Grand Marinier for only €3
