Be careful travelling out of Andorra, particularly into France, if you've bought lots of cigarettes. The French customs officers / police didn't seem to care about anything else, but if you had ciggies on you, or looked like you might, it was time for the detailed bag search. My partner's bag had every millimetre combed, whereas he took one look at mine and turned his nose up.

Traffic, parking and air pollution

MAIN STREET OF ANDORRA LA VELLA

In Andorra la Vella it took me some longer time to park my car on a street and I was looking exclusively for free of charge parking space. I had to drive up and down steep and narrow streets to park a car on backstreet. The traffic became heavy in late afternoon but thanks to job of policewomen it worked smoother.

It seems that there are more cars than people in Andorra la Vella and that natives use more often their four or two wheels than their two legs. This American behaviour unfortunatelly does not fit in Andorran road and parking infrastructure. Keep in mind that all traffic from France to Spain has to go through Andorra la Vella downtown. The result is obvious: traffic jams, lack of parking space and high level of air pollution on the bottom of the valley that is along main streets of downtown. The exhaust fumes of the non-stop parade of cars and motorcycles may affect some folks. You are warned.

Andorra - be aware of Spanish customs

I could not believe the scenes at the border with Spain and even inland. Buses stoped, passengers out, luggage split open and lots of customs official euphoria. This spectacle puzzled me because it reminded me more of Bg-Turkish border than "In-the-heart-of-Europe" frontier. It is time to shake these stereotypes finally. Think twice before you buy something. Make sure you are ready to part with it at a short notice!

Crazy traffic

Traffic is a bit crazy and surprisingly noisy. I was told by a Taxi driver that there were more cars than people in all of Andorra! Police are on point duty around Andorra la Vella and Les Escaldes during rush hour, as it seems that nobody obeys the traffic lights otherwise!
