Arinsal Things to Do

  • Climb Pic de Coma Pedrosa

From Arinsal it is a 4hr trek to the summit of Pic de Coma Pedrosa, Andorra's highest mountain at 2942m. It is great hike with stunning views and the terrain never gets too difficult. It is an excellent day out.Follow the road upwards out of Arinsal and through the tunnel, here take the signposted track to the right, this is part of the long...

  • Take in the Sceanery

If you are not going to ski or snowboard it is worth you while still going up on the mountain purely for the sceanery alone, its amazing. Sit down and have a hot chocolate and people watch. There are a couple of cafes in the main building near the gondola and a bar / restaurant over on the right hand side beyond the magic carpet.

  • The Mountain

The is virtually nothing to do in Arinsal during the day other than go up on the mountain. The mountain is bustling throughout the day as ski and snowboarding schools times are staggered which means there are always people coming and going.

  • Sorry, This is Arinsal

Most packages to Arinsal are Half Board- ie breakfast and dinner included, and depending on the hotel this ranges from not bad to good. Because most people have a free dinner available, and want a break before going back to the Apres Ski- few people look for restaurants, so there aren't many there! Most Pubs do free toasted sandwiches to get you in,...

  • Table desecration

They do happy hour cocktail specials for the apres-skiiers. What we loved about it was the paper tableclothes and the crayons provided!!! [Spot the big kids!] So we got _slightly_ drunk and drew all sorts of things - I was quite proud of my pink cat and my snow angel :)) I just had a dessert and shared some red wine, but the guys lashed into the...

  • Party Of Your Life

El Cau is such a great bar with friendly staff who are mad and join in with everything. It's the largest bar in Arinsal and seems to be the only one with entertainment. ie- sumo wrestling, quiz nights, beach party and on friday is the 70s night which is a ticket only event. Buy your tickets early so you get discount. All your reps from all the tour...

  • EL CAU - friendly staff, good atmosphere

El cau is a very small bar though as everything in Arinsal. And it's as friendly as everybody in this place. I can’t explain why it attracts me so much – I think cause of its atmosphere. Nothing original in decoration of it u won’t find: just a bar along 2 of the walls and big barrels as tables with high chairs. There’s a big screen in one of its...

  • partying in Arinsal

A great night out for some good craic, has live music on several nights of the week including an open mic night (Thurs I think) which is a good laugh. Only downside is that its quite small and can get very crowded on busy nights (mind you, that applies to most bars in Arinsal). It is one of those rare bars that has a great atmosphere but also is...

Arinsal Transportation

  • On a more relevant note..

Flew Dublin - Toulouse with Ryanscare chartered flight. Then got a bus from Toulouse to Arinsal via Pas de la Casa and Andorra La Vella. Came home by ambulance when my friend had a skiing accident and I stayed on to help. Of course this meant missing the flight home from Toulouse. We had to be transferred to Barcelona by ambulance and flew back to...

  • Door to door bus transfers from all...

Getting to Arinsal is only possible by car or by bus. A good website where you can reserve seats on the public bus from Girona, Toulouse or Barcelona airports right to your hotel in Andorra is www.hola-andorra.com. They'll send you your bus tickets within 24 hours. You can also book private transfers either via taxi or buses for up to 50 persons

Arinsal Shopping

  • Alcohol

Alcohol is very cheap in Andorra as its a duty free country. Beware though that there are restrictions on how much alcohol you can take with you back across the Andorran boarder. Its Euro2.40 for a litre bottle of vodka, maybe Euro10 for the better known brands.

Pic Negre are a chain of ski / snowboarding equipment stores. You can hire all your gear for the slopes from them, skiis, ski boats and poles. It is usually packed on Monday mornings because everyone goes here to hear their equipment for the week. Expect long queues.

  • We have come to Ski.

While the restaurants at the piste are reasonably priced- Water and chocolate cost 3 times as much above the cable car as they do below the cable car. As to other shopping- get real this is a tiny ski resort- they don't do shopping!!You can go to Andorra La whatever, to avail of "tax free" shopping, but you save sod all, and loose a day's ski-ing...

These are the more common games in Arinsal, and great fun- BUT BewareThere are often forefeits for loosing the games, and plenty of local rules to ensure you do. So check the Forfeit first, it could involve running around a table with your trousers around your...

Arinsal Warnings and Dangers

  • Health & Ski Insurance

For Europeans, the E111 is _not_ valid in Andorra. You are not allowed on Arinsal ski-school slopes without health/ski insurance. However the fee for this should be covered in the tuition fees. However the health care and hospital systems are absolutely excellent

  • Driving tips

Dont drive too early in Arinsal if possible. Every morning in winter, there are council trucks that clears the snow off the mountain roads. Otherwise make sure your car has excellent traction & brakes as Arinsal is built along a slope, so its not for the nervous/less confident driver. Please check...

Arinsal Tourist Traps

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

El Tarter resort just screams 'Gaudy tourist spot' to me. All fur coat & no knickers.

Between the skiing season and summer walks & hikes seaon, Arinsal is basically dead. Some of the bars close down.

Arinsal What to Pack

  • The Must Haves

Bring COMFORTABLE casual clothes. Girls leave the high heels at home, only will only kill yourself trying to walk around especially if it has snowed recently. Bring some deep heat rub or spray incase you hurt your muscles on the slopes. A camera is a must, just for the sceanery alone.

  • Packing List

Dont bring a ski jacket with an elasticated waistband. Cos when you fall on the slope, the band will ride up and you'll get snow in your navel! Deep Heat! Arinsal Off The Beaten Path

  • orlikins's Profile Photo

by orlikins Updated Apr 4, 2011

Arinsal skiresort isnt as well known as the likes of Gstaad, St Moritz or Kitzbuehel, so I think Arinsal itself is as off the beaten path as you can get. You can explore the rest of the parish (called La Massana) if you want to take a break from skiing.
