Race of the post boxes

by sourbugger

As Andorra is so small it has a rather unusual arrangement for international mail.In many location there is both a French and a Spanish Postbox. Although you by Andorran stamps ethier postal service will deal with it.Post one in each and see which gets home first (no pidgeons were involved in the making of this tip)

Andorra is a small “country”...

by cam.vdb

Andorra is a small “country” in the Pyrenees, just on the border between France and Spain. It’s well-known for skiing, hiking, and ... taxfree shopping. Most people speak Catalan, but also French and Spanish. We always went to the same place, called Soldeu El-Tarter, about 16 km from the french border. It’s situated at 1860 m above sealevel, and the skipistes go up to 2500 m. The skiresort offers you about 70 km green, bleu, red and some black runs.

Pas de la casa its right on...

by saint_eve

Pas de la casa its right on the fRench border and the highest resort in Andorra. It is very cheap for everything. The lift passes are not outrageous, you can get decent food for little money and the booze is very cheap. Good Sport shops with capable people and the slopes are good for newstarters as there quite short runs which wear you not so much out Loads of young people go there as it is not so expensive. All just want to have fun!

Here's a great view of the piste - Pas de la Casa - the resort where we were staying is over and down the top of that mountain. The sun was so hot even though it snowed every night! Taking a break at one of the bars dotted over the mountain turns into a mini sunbathing session to try and get the rest of your body to match your tanned face !!!

At 181 square miles, the independent Principality of Andorra is the largest of Europe's mini-states, (not counting Luxembourg), and also in may ways its most unique. In actuality a co-principality in which the President of France and Spain's Roman Catholic Bishop of Urgel serve as co-princes, or joint ceremonial heads of state with a role analagous to the British Queen's role in Canada, Andorra stayed neutral in two world wars and the Spanish Civil War and emerged as a mountaintop paradise ironically dotted with shopping malls and traffic jams. The capital and largest city of Andorra La Vella has about all the high end shopping that the dedicated consumer could pray for. For the most part, though, these high end shops are located in disappointingly modern buildings, with the only real romanesque architecture to be found in the city being located in the Barri Antic, or old town. Here...

There are many things to do in this country apart from skiing. The mountains are beautiful and there a lot of villages with a lot of churches that you can visit. There is a huge spa center in Andorra called Caldea. You can stay there the whole day and enjoy the swimming pools, massages, saunas. Wonderful!

Have the use of a car, Or better still for Summer, A motorcycle. Avoid Andorra la Vella. Hard to Park with narrow busy streets. Lac De Pessions Hike (From Crau Rouig Ski Station off of the main road between Soldeu and the France Border)Steepish climb to seven ascending lakes. Views are the best I have seen anywhere!

by Kidproton

Hiking to the Pessons Lakes with a backpack full or food and two filled wine skins. Frankly I miss the summer sky. Yeah I know, my tone in the rest of the entries is more irreverent and sometimes depreciative but make no mistake: Andorra is my home and I love it fiercely. When you leave the city and go into Nature... wow. The stars you can see from the mountains on a clear night, sitting by a stream and having a picnic, standing in a waterfall, laying on the greenest grass I have ever seen with the sun glowing gently above on a cloudless sky, surrounded by a plethora of different wildflowers. And of course, I miss the people greatly.

Since I was a kid I always loved geography and often I wonder what it was like in that tiny country called Andorra. Finally I was able to set my foot there and my best memory is infact just being there and having some good and relaxing days together with my spanish friend. THE PHOTO: FINALLY I AM HERE, IN ANDORRA !!!
