DOS CACADORS RESTAURANT AND BAR, ENTRANCE by matcrazy1 This restaurant is centrally and very conveniently located in main through street of Andorra la Vella. In real it is a Spanish style bar with typical round bar chairs along long bar desk and medium size restaurant under one roof. The interior with walls made of stones (typical style of Pyrenean mountain houses) is a bit dark but looks nice. The restaurant offered grilled meats, Mediterranean Spanish cuisine as well as some fast food style sandwiches and snacks. I was most interested in local Andorran food although, frankly speaking, with my low budget everything was too expensive for me. I also knew that they usually added to the bill 10% for service in Andorra. No, this is not expensive place as for Andorra where restuarants tend to be more expensive than in France and Spain, rather below average but during my crazy 10-day trip to Spain (my first one) I couldn't spend money for any food in restaurants.
Well, keep in mind that Andorra is set between France and Spain, the two countries well known for their gastronomic products and reputation. I was suprised to see many fish dishes in the menu. But let me only list the following Andorran specialities: 1. trinxat (a potato and cabbage dish). 2. escudella (a stew of chicken, sausage and meatballs). 3. truites de carreroles (a type of mushroom omelette). 4. local sausages and cheese (hundreds kinds). 5. xai (roast lamb). 6. a variety of pork and ham dishes. 7. coques (flavored flat cakes). Add local wine, foie gras (fattened liver of a duck or goose that has been overfed, French delicasy), Iberian ham, baby squid, piquant potatoes, octopus Galician style, and a pica-pica (little snack). Well, we had only very good cafe at the bar and unexpectadly the bartender brought us two little bottles of local beer we didn't order. Well, he fastly explained that it's from a blondie guy who was sitting close to us. We said thank you and started to talk with that unknown alone guy at my age. He was a very funny and sympathetic visitor from Danemark travelling across Europe. We were the first Poles he was talking to and he was the first Danish man we were talking to as well. After a few minutes and two beers we became friends and were talking almost one hour mostly about travels and our homecountries. Well, we had to leave him and drive south to Spain. La Borda de L'avi by trotador I have been here only once. It is located in La Massana, 20 minutes from Andorra's capital. The restaurant is a renovated old stone house with two stories. In my opinion it is better to book a table near the grill so you can see how they cook your meat. It is a nice experience.
If you like meat this is the place. Leave a Comment

Lake and Restaurant by DSwede This little restaurant is at the bottom of 5 small lakes. You can eat on the deck, basque in the sun, look at the mountains in the reflective waters, watch the birds and clouds go by. After your meal, you can hike further up the trail if you wish and visit the other 4 lakes, each one is an additional 20~30 minutes.
When I visited the restaurant, it was actually closed, so I cannot speak for its menu or prices. But I did have my own food with me, and made a picnic nearby and watched the birds taking baths in the icy water under the big mountains. Even if you don't eat their food, the restaurant is a nice place to visit. Theme: LocalAddress: Up from Grau RoigDirections: If you drive to Grau Roig, you can either drive up the dirt road from the base of the ski area to the right, or park and walk up (~30 minutes).

There are SO many restaurants! IN town I prefer Don Denis in Escaldes. It has the best proscuitto! You can also choose the degree of fanciness. Upstairs is completely casual, while downstairs is more upscale. Incidentally, it's Julio Iglesias' favorite haunt when he's in town. And I'm *not* making that up. You can also find AMAZING food at the Borda de Rauber and Borda Del Avi, but those require a special trip and don't expect English to be spoken there with any regularity. Julio Iglesias! What more do you want! ;)
Trout and Rabbit are my recommendations for the Borda de Raubert, as well as their 'pollastre de pajes' which is a typical catalonian chicken (I call it a velociraptor. This thing's HUGE) with raisins and plums, while Catalonian Canneloni (Canelons) are my recommendation for the Borda Del Avi. In town, there is a restaurant called Angelos. It's a pizzeria and has the thinnest crust on God's green earth. Andorra hasn't quite mastered pizza yet so there are some odd varieties available (the seafood pizza has mussels on the shell). Their english menu is very poorly translated. When they liust 'lard' as an ingredient, for example, it realy means 'sausage'. You have to try the goat cheese pizza with honey (the english menu doesn't list honey but trust me it's there). Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by Narviking There are lots of restaurants in all categories. We however eat mostly in a place called Quick restaurant in centre of Andorra La Vella. It was 'only' socalled fast food but was cheap and good. PHOTO: FRANCISCO TAKES A REST IN A OUTDOOR RESTAURANT, ONE OF SEVERAL LOCATED ALONG THE RIVER. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

The Borda Estevet is probably the best restaurant in a Principality where fine dining is starting to take root and where the choice of restaurants is getting better and better. With an extensive menu of excellent traditional Andorran-Catalan and French fare, the Borda Estevet is what its name says it is, a traditional Andorran farm house. There is probably no dining experience like it anywhere else in Andorra, with stone walls, wood beam ceilings and a gorgeous fireplace. The service is top notch, with a very friendly staff that will not let the language barrier get in the way of their hospitality. This is perhaps the most authentic Andorran dining experience in Andorra La Vella if not the whole country.
Beef served in the traditional Andorran way on piping hot slabs of slate, with vegetables and a bottle of one of the native wines.
