The Village of Canillo

by wadekorzan

Canillo was once the most important parish in all of Andorra, until it was replaced by Andorra La Vella. Still, you´ll find one of the biggest ski resorts here, called Soldeu-El Tarter. There is also an Olympic sized ice skating rink here, as well as the picturesque Church of St. John. It´s easy to get to from anywhere in Andorra, since it is in the middle of the country. You can find more information about Canillo clicking here to go to an interesting website.

Arcalis, in the country´s northwest is beautiful

by wadekorzan

Leaving the capital called Andorra La Vella, the road leading north forks either towards France and Pas de la Casa, or to the ski resort of Arcalis in the country´s far north. If you´re holding a map of Andorra in your hands, it might look far, but actually nothing is far in Andorra since it is so small. The drive to Arcalis takes you through the picturesque Ordino area, and then winds its way up into the mountains and then ends at Arcalis. It is an absolutely beautiful drive and highly recommendable. You´ll find more information about Arcalis soon in my sporting tips section, since it is a popular ski area.

Stop to admire the small, stone churches

by wadekorzan

The medieval Romanesque churches have a profound meaning for Andorrans. For centuries, these picturesque churches have served as the center of spirtual and community life for the people of the valleys. Their architecture is to be admired, as they are built of local materials, usually of slate or granite, and their strength is symbolic of the Andorran peoples. There is a really great website which I highly recommend to visit. Click here to go there!

See the border town of "Pas de la Casa"

by wadekorzan

This is a popular ski resort on the border of France. It is right by the main road leading into France, and it really is beautiful! The town itself is full of duty free shops (of course), but also lots of cafes, restaurants, and hotels. It really seemed to have alot of energy and activity and I wished we had stayed here instead of Andorra La Vella. Definitely a good place to stay if you want to be close to the slopes yet still have some town activity.

Viewpoint "Roc del Quer"

by wadekorzan

If you drive north from the capital, Andorra La Vella, towards the center of the country, you´ll see this viewpoint on the right. You have to walk a ways from where you park the car (10 minutes), but the view is fantastic. Follow the path as far as you can and then go down to the lower viewpoint for a spectacular view of the valley. This really came as an unexpected surprise to us, because we were just driving and it was so beautiful we wanted to pull over, so did at the first place we could. We ended up spending about an hour here walking and enjoying the different views. There was snow everywhere, but it wasn´t cold as we had brillaint blue skies.

Drive as many of the roads as you can

by wadekorzan

My favorite thing about Andorra was the really beautiful mountain scenery. We drove as much as possible, stopping wherever we could to enjoy the scenery or to explore the villages. Don´t just drive through--you actually have to stop and enjoy it. There are places to stop where you can do short walks or hikes, vista points, quaint villages, etc. In January, all the mountains were covered by snow and we had clear blue skies and sun--the scenery was absolutely breathtaking.

Shopping for booze!

by Lucy-

We didnt do this, but another couple we met went into the town centre to buy some duty free spirits, they came back with local vodka for only £2 for a large bottle and other international brands from £4 to £6. I wish I had done more shopping there, as it sounded like there were lots of bargains to be had!

Touching the clouds!.

This picture was taken in one of tallest mountains in Andorra,at about 2.800 meters. In this country you can find a few of them above 3.000 meters.Don't hesitate to go to top of one of them if you have time enough, the views are just GREAT!!.

LA SEU D'URGELL

by Hosell

I'll suggest you to stop here on your way to Andorra.La Seu D'urgell is located in Spain (Lleida province) and it is just 10 km. away from the Andorra border. Is a beautiful medium size town with lot of nice places to see. Also just outside La Seu,if you like nature, you can explore the mountain called "La Sierra de Cadí" is an awesome and very nice place to spend a full morning or afternoon much better during summertime. The views here are beautiful!!
