The only way to Andorra is by overland transit. If you have your own car, you can enjoy your own schedule and flexibility to see all the ins and outs of the small mountain country. However, if you do not have your own transportation, Andorra's government page has a complete list of how to get there. Bus companies, train transfers and their departure locations are listed, complete from: Spain - Barcelona, Girona, Tarragona, Reus, Salou, Cambrils, Lleida, Valencia, Alacante, Madrid, Zaragoza, etc. France - Toulouse, Hospitalet The website also has the contact web pages and phone numbers of the transit lines. Prices and schedule for one such service directly from Barcelona, Girona and Toulouse airports are can be found at this link. Also, it gives location of bus stops. http://www.hola-andorra.com/arinsal/english/novatelgb.htmlr /> If you traveling as a group from anywhere (Reus, Carcassonne, Lleida, etc.), their posted prices for private transfers may be economical depending on your group size.

Andorra by ant1606 Andorra is a majestic mountain realm squeezed between Spain and France, we drove the main road estbound through La Vella. Both uphill and downhill are very steep, in the August heat traffic is intense and steaming engines force a few vehicles to pull aside, at times clogging the road. Foresee to drive or ride with daylight for the beauty of scenery. Leave a Comment Theme: Motorcycle

Pequeños problemas con el coche by Pangea Sin duda la mejor forma de llegar a Andorra y moverse por el país es llevar el propio coche, con el único inconveniente de las largas colas que se pueden formar en determinados días y a determinadas horas. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

The only way into Andorra is by road. The major automobile routes into and out of Andorra include the CG1 from Spain and the CG2 from France. If you take the latter, you'll pass through the unforgettable Port d'Envalira, the highest pass in the Pyrenees (2410m/7900ft).The nearest Spanish airports are in Barcelona and Girona; the nearest French airport is Toulouse-Blagnac. The French railway station closest to Andorra is L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre, two hours south of Toulouse by train. From there, daily buses make the two hour trip to Andorra la Vella. The nearest Spanish railway station is about 40km (25km) east of the Andorran border at Puigcerdà. It has daily bus connections to Andorra la Vella via Seu d'Urgell. Hiring a car is the best way to see Andorra and her mountains..the roads are large and safe.In the winter you have to chain in the weels of the car because the snow on the roads. Getting to the Principality of Andorra is not easy, and is probably best combined within a larger driving trip in France or Spain. From Barcelona, which is the only really big city in either France or Spain that has an airport close to Andorra, you can rent a car and be into Andorra La Vella in about 3 1/2 hours, slightly longer if you plan to stay in Ordino or one of the other mountain towns. Be advised that this is not a straight line drive and involves several highway changes. It is easy to get lost, both coming and going, so bring a map and be sure to have studied it before you depart on your journey. (You can also enter Andorra from France as well, but again, a map is essential.) Another option is to take the bus from Barcelona. There are three buses into and out of Andorra daily from Barcelona's central bus station or airport into the main bus terminal in Andorra La Vella. From there you can take a cab if your hotel is in the capital or Escaldes, or you can take a mini-bus into the other towns of the principality. Be advised, there are no airports or train stations in Andorra. The closest airport is in Barcelona, the closest train station, from where you can take a bus into Andorra La Vella, is in Urgel, Spain. Getting around Andorra La Vella and Escaldes should be done on foot, as the traffic, particulary on weekends and at rush hour, can be quite bad and parking can be hard to come by, tends to be far from things, and is expensive. (The sole exception is if you plan to go to Borda Estevet for dinner, in which case you should take a taxi or drive. Free parking is available.) As to the rest of the principality, there is a network of minibuses that you can use to get around. This will get you from town to town, but you will miss a lot of scenic stops. Unfortunately, driving yourself, Andorran drivers and twisting mountain roads notwithtsanding, is probably your best bet. Better still, have your hotel arrange one of the many tours that are available. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

From the UK a IT tour with First Choice. They include a car and a Hotel with Half Board in Arinsal Or Soldeu. Driving from Reus is easy and takes 3 1/2 hrs. Fuel in Andorra was 125pts/litre in 2000. Car again. Passes are steep so don't hurry. Drive to Car parks to start walks. Andorra La Vella City is a nightmare to park in. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

PYRENEES, PORT D'ENVALIRA IN MAY by matcrazy1 This tiny - one of the most mountainous countries in the world - is squeezed in the heart of Pyrenees Mountains between France and Spain and has no airport and no trains. However, the closest airport (LEU) is located in La Seu d'Urgell, Spain that is only 20km from Andorra la Vella but it's a local airport. International cheap flights reach Barcelona (BCN) and Girona (GRO) in Spain and Toulouse (TLS) in France. Prepare for long bus transfers (3-4 hours) from these airports to Andorra. The nearest railway station is located in l'Hospitalet, France, only 13 km from Andorra border crossing point in Pas de la Casa. But the only way to get to Andorra is by road that is by car, bus (they go from the above airports and railway station, also from Perpignan in France) or bicycle, or - if you are enough rich and the weather is good - by helicopter. There is one - 44 km long - well maintained, open all year round, and very scenic road from France (Toulouse; N20 to N22) through Andorra (CG2 and CG1) to Spain (La Seu d'Urgell; N145). I drove it from Toulouse, France (155 km). The very scenic mountain road was climbing up to the border crossing point where I had to stop and show my passport and futher up to Port d'Envalira, the highest paved pass in the Pyrenees (see my off the beaten path tip). Check up-to-date bus connections to Andorra by: 1. Novatel Autocars 2. Eurolines. Leave a Comment
