Just by Road

by black_mimi99

The only way to Andorra just by road, there is no airport or train station here. The closes airport is from Barcelona-Spain or Toulouse-Blagnac-France. The better way to Andorra is by car or bus, where can enjoy the view of the Pyrenees mountain with the snow on top. The main roads to Andorra are very well maintained, large and safe but sometimes very steep, and when winter time better use the chain in the weels of the car because the snow on the road. The other way to Andorra by train is: in French railway station closest to Andorra is L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre, two hours south of Toulouse by train. From there, daily buses make the two hour trip to Andorra la Vella. The nearest Spanish railway station is about 40km (25km) east of the Andorran border at Puigcerdà. It has daily bus connections to Andorra la Vella via Seu d'Urgell.

Only by road or... helicopter :-)

by matcrazy1

This tiny - one of the most mountainous countries in the world - is squeezed in the heart of Pyrenees Mountains between France and Spain and has no airport and no trains. However, the closest airport (LEU) is located in La Seu d'Urgell, Spain that is only 20km from Andorra la Vella but it's a local airport. International cheap flights reach Barcelona (BCN) and Girona (GRO) in Spain and Toulouse (TLS) in France. Prepare for long bus transfers (3-4 hours) from these airports to Andorra. The nearest railway station is located in l'Hospitalet, France, only 13 km from Andorra border crossing point in Pas de la Casa. But the only way to get to Andorra is by road that is by car, bus (they go from the above airports and railway station, also from Perpignan in France) or bicycle, or - if you are enough rich and the weather is good - by helicopter. There is one - 44 km long - well maintained, open...

France to Andorra to Barcelona by public transport

by sushisoo

I travelled into andorra from Paris, and onto Barcelona in november 2009I got overnight train from Paris to La tour de carol - first mistake - I shoul have got off at L'hospitalet - there are infrequent buses between the two. From L'Hospitalet there ws only one bus a day to Pays de la Casa - at 0935, there was no direct bus to andorra. the bus driver from La tour de Carol phoned ahead to ask the driver of the L'Hospitalet bus to wait for me as our bus was due to arrive at 0940! That bus wa late anyway. It dropped me at Pays de a Casa where there were quite a few buses leaving to Andorra la vella. (In andorra la vella I stayed at hotel cisco de la sans which wa excellent and good price)From andorra la V to Barcelona was vey easy - I jsut went to the 'bus station' which is essentially a traavel shop, next to Parc Central. Buses leave every 90 mins or so straight to Barcelona (Sants station)...

Overland travel to the mini country

by DSwede

The only way to Andorra is by overland transit. If you have your own car, you can enjoy your own schedule and flexibility to see all the ins and outs of the small mountain country. However, if you do not have your own transportation, Andorra's government page has a complete list of how to get there.Bus companies, train transfers and their departure locations are listed, complete from:Spain - Barcelona, Girona, Tarragona, Reus, Salou, Cambrils, Lleida, Valencia, Alacante, Madrid, Zaragoza, etc.France - Toulouse, HospitaletThe website also has the contact web pages and phone numbers of the transit lines.Prices and schedule for one such service directly from Barcelona, Girona and Toulouse airports are can be found at this link. Also, it gives location of bus stops.http://www.hola-andorra.com/arinsal/english/novatelgb.htmlIf you traveling as a group from anywhere (Reus, Carcassonne, Lleida,...

Getting to and from Andorra

by socheid

Hi all,The best website I have found for the above ishttp://www.andorra.com/uk/comunica/comunica.aspFor travel within Andorra:-http://www.andorra.com/uk/comunica/dins.aspIf you are travelling to Andorra by bus from Toulouse the buses run from the main Toulouse train station in Toulouse. When you get to the train station the buses run from the "Gare Routiers" right in front of the main train station. "Gare Routiers" is well sign posted. If you are travelling between Andorra and Barcelona by bus be careful to research properly in advance. This is since the buses run to and from 2 bus stations in Barcelona - "Estacio Sants" and "Nord". "Nord" bus station is right beside "Arc de Triomf" metro.Keep well,Stevie

To Andorra by car / Low prices for gasoline!

by Tobias_Plieninger

See the discroption on the page.If you go to Andorra with a rental car it might be the same price than the bus for a weekend trip. If you have a car this offers you much more options. The travel to Andorra will be unforgetable! The prices of gasoline are very cheap in Andorra so cheap this in mind for choosing the right pit stop strategy!

To Andorra by bus.

Very well maintained roads

by wadekorzan

As you can see from the photo, the main roads of Andorra are very well maintained. They are of asphalt, but usually are only two lanes, so take your time, because their are alot of curves. Some of the secondary roads are very well maintained as well, but be sure that they are open if there has been alot of recent snow. I highly recommend the road between Ordino and Canillo--it is usually open unless there has been too much snow. If it is open, it is a beautiful drive.

Really, the best is to have a car

by wadekorzan

The nearest major airport is Barcelona, Spain, and there are no trains going to Andorra. You can take a bus from Barcelona, but once you are in Andorra you are then restricted as to where you can go and when you can go there. I do highly recommend driving to and around Andorra. The capital can be full of traffic and pedestrians and parking can be scarce--but still, it is by far the best way to get around (unless you plan on spending 6 months, as then you could walk everywhere)...again, when driving, mind the windy roads!

Steep Road

by ant1606

Andorra is a majestic mountain realm squeezed between Spain and France, we drove the main road estbound through La Vella. Both uphill and downhill are very steep, in the August heat traffic is intense and steaming engines force a few vehicles to pull aside, at times clogging the road. Foresee to drive or ride with daylight for the beauty of scenery.
