    The Holy Mary Column

The top of the Holy Mary Column

It stands on the town square and was completely restored together with the house of the community. I don´t know exactly when it was built, but I will have a look ....

It was often replaced due to the fact that the town square was reconstructed very often. But the Holy Mary Column must be rather old, I guess it was built in baroque times ... But I will have a look in the chronicle.

    Parish church - The interiors

    The parish church - inside

This is a photo which shows the interiors of our parish church - and I had luck when I took this picture. The church was openend and I could turn on all the lights ... just wonderful conditions for a perfect work.

The parish church looks very simple inside and it was reconstructed very often over the last centuries. It got its current apperence in the mid 20th century.

    The church tower

    The church tower

This is the tower of the parish church. The tower is the landmark of Göttlesbrunn. It looks great in the evening, when the one part is lightened and other part in the dark.

It was already 8 p.m. when I took this picture, and a few minutes later the church bells begin to ring. Unfortuneatly it is not possible to enter the tower.

    A look

Look above and you will see the ornaments, the staircase wall and some parts of the dome. This kind of architecture is so unique ....

There are also postcards and leaflats available which show the architecture and the are free of charge! So take some of them with you if you have no camera available.

    Ornaments are everywhere

    Ornament

The artist Gottfried Kumpf was very creative and so he placed ornaments everywhere, which look really pretty. This ornament is just over the staircase, which I presented some tips before ....

Look out for this ornaments, when you visit this service area and if you have some luck you will also get some sunshine which and the ornaments will lightened. That is art on Austria's motorways!

    The dome

This is the dome, which is made of glass. So many light comes in here and it also looks great too ....

But when I spoke with the managing director of the service area, he told me that he likes it too but he always afraid when it is necessary to clean it ... because it is very hard to clean ... and he becomes much more afraid when he gets the bill ...

    :-))

    The staircase (2)

    The staircase

This is the same staircase, but a little bit more upstairs and here you can see that the seminar rooms are closed.

Isn't it amazing for a small country like Austria that some of its highway service areas were created by artists?

Göttlesbrunn is not the only service area which was created by an artist, there is also a service area in Bad Fischau (highway A2) which was created by Friedensreich Hundertwasser (many of you will know him) and Arnwiesen in Styria, which was created by Karl Hodina ... (to name only some of them).

    staircase

This staircase connects the coffee shop and the restaurant with the seminar rooms, which are upstairs. You can rent them for seminars, weddings, birthday celebrations or any other event.

Although they are not cheap, it must be cool to celebrate an event in such interesting rooms, which were created by an artist ...

Unfortuneatly they were closed, so that I couldn't take any pics of them ...

    Arcades

by MEdelmann Updated Jul 5, 2003

    Arcades

There are some nice arcades at the forefront of the service area house. They invite to sit down in summer and the restaurant will also prepare the furniture. But it was already too chilly in October and so they already removed all the tables and chairs ..... So if you like to sit here you have to come in during the summer months, from May til September.
