When you are leaving the monastery of Melk you may see this stand on the right, shortly before you get to the stairs, leading to the large car-park. A local farmer displays there his brandies and wines, self-made candles and soap, just that kind of goods that were traditionally always sold in places, where pilgrims would go. All liquors and wines may be tasted there as well, before buying them !!
I may highly recommend to taste some "MOHNZELTEN" - see my 3rd picture : It is a small cake, filled with poppy-seeds and tastes really great !
I payed 1,50 Euros for such a cake - it is really worth it and made a great snack before driving home. This shop offers a plentiful selection at books about Melk Abbey, view cards as well as a multiplicity from traditional souvenirs. Impressively is the big wood clock, approximately 2 meters high that decorated the store room. Especially remarkable, is the wood embroidery, and the hand-made wood mechanism of the clock.
