Roiten is a small village close to Rappottenstein and for fans of the austrian painter Friedensreich Hundertwasser this village has a lot of unique exhibits to be seen only there :
Hundertwasser was living inside a small hut in the woods there - see it in my first 2 photos here - a hut without running water or electricity , and many of his famous paintings were made, while Hundertwasser was sitting on a small island in the tiny river in front of his house.
The building of Dorfmuseum Roiten was re-decorated by Hundertwasser in his typical style and another house next to it has a small museum inside with lots of photos, a pyjama by Hundertwasser, his moped etc.
the museums are open for visitors:
May till September: Fri till Sun & Holidays: 02.00pm - 04.30pm
and groups from 5 persons or more upon reservation!

Burg Rappottenstein is a well-preserved castle in the so-called "Waldviertel" . There is a carparking close to the castle, then you have to walk about 5 minutes to get to the castle and to the Burgschenke, a small restaurant, but both were unfortunately closed already when I came there .
Visits to the castle are possible only by guided tours at fixed hours like here:
Easter till end of April: Sat, Sun & Holdays only :
11 + 12 + 02 + 03 + 04pm
May, June & September: Tuesdays till Sundays :
11 + 12 + 02 + 03 + 04pm
July & August also tours at 10am and 05pm
In October only SAT, SUN & Holiday (=26.10. austrian national holiday):
11 + 12 + 02 + 03 + 04pm

a great castle, 70km north-west of Vienna
This castle is about 70km north-west of vienna and you will need a car to get there ! Combine it with a visit at Roiten for some great museums by and about Hundertwasser.
