There is a little known "Promenade" way that starts behind the public park in Reichenau and goes alll the way further into the valley to end up in HIRSCHWANG... about a 30 minuted walk ... .no hills... just under lovely trees and always alongside the river which in the summer is a nice cool refreshing break and offers little islands to cool off those feet or sit down - get a tan - and ponder on God and the world.
If you start in Reichenau... at the Pavillion in the park, there is a little lake where you can hire boats in the summer and a cafe is beside it... on the far end of the little pond, take a left and you will see the river to your right immediately... follow it down stream 2 min to the next bridge, cross that bridge and then take an immediate right ... the path will meander along a few houses, you will cross a street and also have deserted rail-tracks on your left hand side... just follow these tracks and you will be led alongside the mountains into a most wonderful - tranquil environment.
OTHER TIP: You can also hire a bike from the local gas-station >
Fahrradverleih/service: Fa. BP-Tankstelle Slanar, Hauptstra?e 92, Tel.: +43 (2666) 52424
And simply enjoy that path cycling and letting your hair down ...

If you hike in the area of the "RAX" - around Reichenau you might come across a rather "tame" wild animal that is an acrobat on the steep rockery.... the GEMSE > it's kind of a mountain goat specific to this alpine region.
The GEMSE or also GAMS (as it's called in Austria) is a cute animal with very dark fur and smaller dark horns.
I rescued a young one once that had fallen off a rock - and brought it to the VET in my backback... it could be fixed and is hopefully living out it's days in the fresh air - nibbling on Enzian and Edelweiss ;)
