Burg Rappottenstein - 5km from Roiten

Burg Rappottenstein is an interesting castle just about 5km from Roiten and maybe you can take a look there as well. There is a carparking close to the castle, then you have to walk about 5 minutes to get to the castle and to the Burgschenke, a small restaurant, but both were closed already when I came unfortunately.
Visits are possible only by guided tours at fixed hours like here:
Easter till end of April: Sat, Sun & Holdays only :
11 + 12 + 02 + 03 + 04pm
May, June & September: Tuesdays till Sundays :
11 + 12 + 02 + 03 + 04pm
July & August also tours at 10am and 05pm
In October only SAT, SUN & Holiday (=26.10. austrian national holiday):
11 + 12 + 02 + 03 + 04pm

Die gerade Linie ist Gottlos

"Die gerade Linie ist Gottlos" is one of the mottos of Friedensreich Hundertwasser and you might translate it like "a straight line was made by the devil"
And this motto is also printed / painted on the facade of the Hahnsäge, where Hundertwasser had lived for some years under really substandart conditions. I doubt very much that these decorations in my photos were made by Hundertwasser, as you cannot see them on any of the photos shown in the Hundertwasser museum in Roiten.
Hundertwasser died in 2000, on a cruise from New Zealand back to Europe onboard the cruise-ship QE II. and obviously some of his fans have painted the hut later that way.
The hut had been a donation to Hundertwasser and fell back to the former owner, who did not think of renovating it, there is a saw next to it (thats where the name HahnSÄGE comes from)and the workers in the woods used it to take a rest there in the rain etc.
I saw it in 2011 and I could imaging it might fall apart some day soon, it would be a pity !

Even when you come to Roiten outside the ordinary opening-hours of the museum there is still a bit to see for real fans of Friedensreich Hundertwasser's architecture:
You will see colorfull pillows, the house-roofs planted with grass and trees, colorful decorations and some funny details as well, when you walk around the Dorfmuseum, "behübscht " by Hundertwasser and the Hundertwasser-museum next to it.
the museums are open for visitors:
May till September: Fri till Sun & Holidays: 02.00pm - 04.30pm
and groups from 5 persons or more upon reservation!
e-mail:info@dorfmuseum-roiten.at Roswitha Haghofer
or the tel-nr. below !
b.t.w. the paintings that you see on the Hahnsäge are not made by Hundertwasser, you can see that on many photos shown in the museum, it looks funny anyway - see it in my next tip !

Hundertwasser - museum in Roiten

the building next to the Dorfmuseum was not designed by Hundertwasser himself, BUT by somebody else, making it similar to the style that Hundwasser was famous for.
And inside that museum you will find a lot of souvenirs, photos and many things of everyday life, that were used by Friedenreich hundertwasser, while he used to live in that small hut in the woods, that did not have electricity, not running water, except the river next to it.

Dorfmuseum Roiten by Hundertwasser

Roiten had an old house that was used as a dairy and when this dairy was closed, Hundertwasser - who lived in a small hut closeby - had the idea to decorate the building in his own, special way and build a Dorfmuseum (village-museum) inside, a museum about old machineries that used to help the farmers, old school-accessories etc.
This museum can be visited on guided tours only and that tour also includes a visit to the building next door, with amuseum about Hundertwasser's Art and architecture with lots of photos and articles from newspapers - read more about it in my next tip !

Hundertwasser's Hut in the woods

It is really not easy to get there, you need to drive first about 2-3 km from the village-museum of Roiten to tiny a place, where you can park your car and from there you have to walk another 30 minutes in order to get to "Hahnmühle" , a small hut that was given to Hundertwasser by one of his friends, who owned these woods. After the death of Hundertwasser the hut was given back to the former owner, who used it as a place for his workers, so it almost fell apart and you should really hurry, when you want to see this !
