Salamander Sesselbahn is a new chairlift with 4 seats in one gondola and it takes you from Losenheim (about 5 km from Puchberg) to "Faden" , a lower alp of Schneeberg in a hight of 1210 meters. This place is a good starting-point for hikes to Schneeberg and also to the Salamander-train-station Baumgarten and the Buchtel-wirt, that would be quite a long, but also a very scenic hike.

Of course it also makes even more sense for everybody living in Vienna or Niederoesterreich !
Niederoesterreich ( NÖ ) is the county around Vienna and the place where you will find lots of destinations for daytrips, when on vacation in Vienna:
Melk - Wachau - Ruine Aggstein - Schloss Grafenegg - Semmering - even Belvedere Palace in Vienna, Siegmund Freud-museum - various cablecars and trains...
all of them are included in just 1 price : 47 Euros p.P. for a total of 277 attractions !
21,- euros for children, who did not have their 16th birthday before April 1st 2010.children under 6 are free !
You may buy this ticket at all places in Vienna and Niederoesterreich, where newspapers are sold (we call these shops Trafik) and also at every Raiffeisen-bank !
b.t.w. the Raiffeisenbank in Semmering is next to Zauberberg, at the place, where you leave the pass-road, it is the same place, where you also find the tourist-information !

Schneebergbahn was the traditional name for the narrow-gauge steamtrain that was built in 1897. A few years ago the old steam-trains were replaced by faster, modern diesel-trains called "Salamander". They are also painted like Salamanders and it makes sense to reserve your seats in advance over the internet.
I was there in time for the 12.00 train, but had to wait untill 01.30 p.m., because it was fully booked. Also for the return-ticket you need to reserve a time on your ticket, mine was misprinted and I am glad I saw that in time and had it corrected.
This train has an automatic door, that will not let you in , when you dont have the correct departure-time on your ticket. On your way back, the tickets are checked by the conductor.
The Salamander-train to Schneeberg runs all year
except january and february !
in Nov+Dec+Mar+April it goes only Sat+Sun
and only untill station Hengsthuette !!
The returnticket is 32,- euros, one-way is 22,60 euros
This train is totally free 1x for holders of NÖ-CARD !!!
for the ordinary Salamander-train !
------------------------------------------------------------------
Steam-trains will be operated each sunday
from July 4th till September 5th, 2010
at 10.15a.m. uphill an 02.45 downhill
for a ride with the old steam-train the fee is 6 euros extra !
