Well, this is for the east european tourists (like me): restaurants are not so cheap. Although they offer an excellent cuisine you cannot consider a dinner cheaper than 10-15 Euros per person. Drinks are also expensive (3-6 euros a beer- however an excellent beer indeed).
So for those of you who want to spend less money, think about the fact that Semmering has only one grocery/ bakery etc , a small shop called Billa, where everything is cheap and good. But ATTENTION: is closed on Sundays (all day) and Saturday afternoon. So consider this.
I had my room in Loeffler with breakfast included (it was more than enough and very tasty- you establish with the manager what kind of breakfast you want and you have it included in the room price) and that was enough till 4-6 pm when I went to have dinner (usually in other restaurants). So the breakfast might be a solution to keep costs low.
I do not recommend half pension (dinner included). It's better to have at least the choice of the dinner.
Fun Alternatives: A solution would be Gasthoff Bergoff which offers a main course with free salads. They are good and plenty.
Ski Shop- too expensive
My advise: if you can, go there with your own skis. The local shop has very expensive ski equipment so you will have to buy at THAT huge price if you do not have your own equipment.
Renting equipment is also expensive so....
Fun Alternatives: buy your skis from Wien when you get there or bring your own equipment.
