Attersee Things to Do

If you can spare the time, and if the season is right, visit the open air swimming area - the Freiluftbad - on the shores of the Attersee. Situated right along the main road through town. As we were just passing through, there was no time for us to visit this place.

This unique church is a place of pilgrimage of lots of Christians in the whole area and a place of many meetings and holidays.
The church is located on a hill and towers above the lake providing splendid views from behind the altar wall.
    The altar is splendid.
We were inside the church and sat there listening to the organ after the service.

We were very impressed by the Catholic Church called Maria Attersee, especially by its altar that you can see on this picture.
You can see statues of St.Anna and St.Elizabeth on both sides of the altar, which is also very unusual I think.
Listening to the church organ was a wonderful experience.

Before entering Maria Attersee Church we saw this war memorial erected in 1926 and dedicated to the fallen soldiers of the two world wars.
It depicts Jesus blessing an Austrian soldier for defending his Motherland.
You can see the names of all the soldiers and officers who left to the front from the city of Attersee and fell at the fronts of the two world wars. When you go up the hill to the Catholic Church, you will pass this church with a beautiful spire - Attersee Evangelic Church, one of the few Protestant churches at the lakeshore.

Restaurant on a great spot right next to the lake and the main road through town.

Favorite Dish: For our lunch we had pancakes with marmelade - in Austria these are called Palatschinken - and ham and cheese on toasted bread, ice tea and a coke, for which we paid just a little over 12 euro.

The city beach is a very attractive place and is well-known in all Lake Attersee towns and cities!
This place attracts many visitors who stay in the neighboring Lake Cities.
We stayed in Weyregg, but several times took a ship across the lake to the city of Attersee to enjoy the famous city beach.
It's a real paradise for kids!

Swimming in Lake Atter (the Attersee) is both a refreshing and invigorating experience. The tremendous size of the lake makes you feel like you're swimming in a sea, until you realize the water's fresh and drinkable. It's waters are considered very clean and they tout it as drink water quality. I tried some, quite good and I didn't get sick so, that's a plus!

Aside from swimming, many other water sports are availble to a visitor on the Attersee. These include diving (which is ideal because of the unique underwater topography of the lake), windsurfing, sailing, fishing, water skiing, much more. The Attersee allows any visitor to enjoy the fresh-water as never before.

Equipment: The proper equipment will depend on what activities you have planned. For swimming, all you need is a bathing suit and a towel. But for more advanced things like scuba diving and windsurfing, the appropriate gear is necessary. If you don't have your own, there are places you can rent from.

Favorite thing: I enjoyed the view from the lake and the nice architecture.
I found them to be very special.
The city of Attersee was called after the lake at which it stands.
All other seven Lake Attersee Cities are: Nussdorf,
    Unterach,
    Wessenbach,
    Steinbach,
    Weyregg,
    Schörfling,
    Seewalchen

Fondest memory: Bathing in the lake and lying in the sun at the city beach.
