Not far south of Braunau on the way to Tarsdorf and Fúcking (see my pages!) the Salzach meets the bigger Inn which forms from that place on the border between Austria and Germany (the last kms to its end the Salzach is the frontier), a few km from here is the Bavarian Burghausen with a castle forming almost a city itself (opposite the Austrian village Duttendorf - an other funny name not far from Fúcking, I can see globetrott smiling...). The meeting of Inn and Salzach can be observed from a nice and idyllic place a few meters from the road.
Braunau is the capital city of a Bezirk (engl. District) which is in Austria an administrative unit below a state (the state in this case is Oberösterreich/Upper Austria). In this district (and in the neighbouring districts both in Austria and in Germany as well) are plenty of villages with extremely funny names and you may easily do a tour (even cycling) visiting quite a number of them. The most funny name among these villages is Fúcking. Btw such cycling tours are here very popular - we could observe it at the occasion of the Fúcking VT-member meeting in September 2006. No wonder - it is a wonderful landscape with the northern parts of the Alps in the background, some very warm lakes, great inexpensive inns and restaurants and quiet and comfortable sideroads for easy and relaxed cycling. Fücking proper is described on several VT-pages.
