Braunau am Inn Warnings and Dangers

Be careful when you ask people from Braunau about the birthplace of Hitler, some of them get angry and dont want to talk about it. The building is hidden somewhere, I have heared it is a home for mentally sick people.

If you plan to visit Braunau avoid the 20 April because on 20 April (Führers Geburtstag, i.e. Hitler's birthday was the most important holiday in the Third Reich) the center of Braunau might be inaccessible for non-residents to prevent unwelcome festivities or demonstrations there but it can be assumed that it will be a bit more relaxed in a not too far future when practicallly all old Nazis are as dead as Hitler.
