Being at the Lögerhutte always gives me the ultimate holiday feeling. The hut is located at 1420m above sea level and at the summer the view at the Totes Gebirgte (Dead Mountain range), Kleine Priel and the green meadows are breathtaking. During the winter period it's one big party over here. As you can read this "Ski-und Wanderhütte" operates all year round ski and wasbuilt in 1988. It offers the optimum ambience with refined hospitality and good bourgeois cuisine. It can host 60 people inside and the terrace outside another 100 guests.
Inside and outside of the wood construction offers a rustic alpine character. The decoration, the Lögerhütte resembles a Alpine - and Ski Museum. In genereal Austrian food is influenced by Hungarian, Bohemian and Italian cooking and is very diverse. The food at the Lögerhutte has some strong regional differences. The dishes are simple but divine.
Favorite Dish: Try the Spätzle, which is a traditonal Austrian dish of Austria which exists since the 18th century.

This historic, family-run guest house in the village of Hinterstoder is situated right at the city center, accross the Parish Church. The house was built in 1895 and is now run by the third generation of the family.
After a fun-filled day, help yourself to delicious cuisine in the Zur Post’s rustic restaurant.
A typical Tyrolian family guest-house hotel in the family for 3 generations. It offers a a rather big dining room, a small cosy bar, sun beds provided for an open-air terrace. This family-run inn definately impresses with its personal care.
Favorite Dish: For food consumed in between meals there are many types of open sandwiches available here, called "belegte Brote", with different kinds of sausage, mustard or ketchup. I also tried the rolls or Schnitzelsemmeln (rolls filled with schnitzel).

This family-run hotel / restaurant is surrounded by lush meadows and idyllic forests. It trully is the ideal location for both an adventurous hike in the surroundings and then have a relaxing lunch right here. I assure you that you will be in good hands of Karin and Christian Wendl, who are married ever since 1980.
Being at Dietlgut feels like being in the heart of nature and their natural groceries do have a positive effect on our healthness. They do have quality food! Because Dietlgut is situated at the end of the Stoder Valley, we don’t visit it on a daily bases. Usually after our hike following the Hinterstoder city center- Schiedeweier pond - Polstergut – Dietlgut. Quite a strenious hike with definately fabulous views of the Spitsmauer and Gr. Priel! After this hike we do enjoy a nice lunch of Kaiserschmarrn with a cold glass of beer!
Favorite Dish: It trully is one of the best known Austrian desserts, very popular with the Ensink family. “Kaiser” is literally translatable as Emperor and “Schmarrn” meaning something like a mishmash, a mess, crumbs, a trifle, a nonsense or a fluff. Kaiserschmarrn is a light, caramelised pancake made from a sweet batter with flour, eggs, sugar, salt and and milk, baked in butter.

The Ensink family and Landhotel Gressenbauer do have a tradition together. Ever since we visit Hinterstoder we do eat at Gressenbauer. This family-run hotel is famous for the unique way it combines a long tradition with all modern amenities. You can find it on a small hill away from the bustling streets in the middle of lush meadows covered with colorful flowers. From the Landhotel, which is conveniently located only a two minutes walk from our guesthouse Pernegger, you can enjoy a stunning view of the Totes Gebirge mountain range. No noise, no exhaust fumes, no thronging crowds, just peace, Austrian hospitality and pure nature. Sunshine, fresh air, a healthy diet and friendly attention are the main reasons why people want dine at the Landhotel Gressenbauer.
The cosy rooms of the restaurant awaits you with traditional dishes such as fresh apple strudel, just freshly catched trout or a tasty "Brettljausn" snack. Like I said, the kitchen is really traditionally oriented, the menu contains Austrian dishes such as the popular Schnitzels, German Pot Roast with red cabbage and spatzle. Sauces are generally rich with plenty of butter and cream, and Gabriel makes his own stock with no artificial ingredients. The dessert menu offers something for everyone, including an excellent Apple Strudel, and a heavenly homemade ice-cream made with nuts, honey and peanut butter - need we say more?
Favorite Dish: The delicious freshly catched trout and the sliced veal with onion and a creamy white sauce served with rosti, all of which are Chef's recommendations.
BTW Gabriel himself is happy to show nature lovers the stark mountain scenery and the beautiful surrounding area.

Barbecue is simply a great way to spend time with friends and family, to entertain and to simply enjoy your background. Having a barbecue is becoming increasingly popular and brings your cooking outside – so you don’t have to miss out on the fun while still preparing a tasty and memorable meal.
I guess that barbecue has numerous regional variations in many parts of the world. We like to stay outside, have the meat on the barbecue, enjoy some nice beer or wine and have fun and enjoy each other’s company. This time being together is quite priceless and therefore we had a few during our stay in Hinterstoder. The surrounding was beautiful at the patio of our house, the sun going down and the Totesgebirgte Mountains in the background. No restaurant in the vicinity could top that! At the local shops we bought some fine meat and fish and (of course) the necessary beer and wine.
Once I am finished using the barbecue, I turn it over onto some bricks and let the coals burn out completely. It will leave a nice warm air coming to you for a bit colder evening.
Favorite Dish: I would highly recommend grilling fish, as I do. Of course you can grill many other fish, meat, vegetables or other foods on the grill. I have grilled freshly catched trout and catfish on the grill and came out with great results – but salmon is my favourite!

The Hinterstoder World Cup Village is located at the end of the Stoder Valley, surrounded by the impressive peaks of the Totes Gebirge mountain range. A very good way to enjoy the view at these peaks is taking the 6-seater gondola lift which takes you to the Hutterer Höss. This trip promises untouched nature in the middle of a romantic mountain world. We decided to hike our way up to the Hutterer Höss and knew that a well deserved refreshment point was waiting for us. We sat down at the Berggasthof Hutterer Höss, it truly welcomes skiers (wintertime) and riders and hikers (summertime) for eats and drinks.
Berggasthof Hutterer Höss is a typical alpine hut. I guess that the top of every Austrian mountain has a place to get a beer and a bowl of gulasch, just like here. But this special place offers snow-capped Alps form the backdrop with an opportunity to experience some fine Austrian food.
I enjoyed the open sandwiches with different kinds of sausages with mustard and bread. I did have that well deserved cold beer to go with it. Patricia had Schnitzelsemmeln (rolls filled with schnitzel) and some friet potatoes. Not the high cuisine of a restaurant, but solid food and tasty anyway. The view did the rest!
Favorite Dish: There are also other common delicacies, which may not be cordon bleu, but which are typical of Austrian food, for example the Bosner (a spiced bratwurst in a hot dog roll) which is an integral part of the menu at Austria's typical fast-food joint, the sausage stand (Würstelstand).

Maybe it’s not fair to make another ‘restaurant tip’ about this, but a part of Café Annemarie is the Pizza MamamiA Bar. It’s my favourite pizza joint in Hinterstoder. I haven't stayed in the restaurant itself longer than the 15 minutes it takes to get some takeaway pizza. It's fun to watch and great to see that all pizza's are handmade right in front of you! I haven't tasted their other dishes either, but the pizza is just so delicious. It's not as greasy as at most other places and the toppings at least look pretty fresh. The basic Pizza Margherita costs only €6.- and is made with tomato, sliced mozzarella, basil and extra virgin olive oil. Just ask and they will throw on some extra tomato, buffalo mozzarella and basil on it for free!
The place itself is small and old-fashioned, all over-decorated with Italian ornaments and preserved saltwater fishes. It's very clean, though, and the staff is very friendly. They're open on sundays, so when the weather is fine, grab a pizza and eat it on a bench in the sun!
Favorite Dish: Definately the Pizza Marinara, which is made with tomato, garlic, oregano and extra virgin olive oil (although I have tasted it here as well with added basil to the marinara).

Klein aber fein (small but just fine) is what Café Annemarie stands for. It’s situated in the centre of the small village of Hinterstoder, just a minute away from the main building of the EUB Hössbahn.
Whether you're looking to sample some traditional Austrian fare, Italian, or a quick snack, have a stop at Café Annemarie and try the cuisine. Depending on whate you choose, you can find some at very reasonable prices. Look out for Mittagsmenüs (mid-day menus) as these often offer a cheaper option, like the local specialties: Wiener schnitzel, cheese, pasta, sausage, salad, potato and pastries. The food is fresh and reflects the local diet.
Favorite Dish: Every day — well, almost every day — the chef whips up a speciality that you won’t find on the regular menu. Just inform about it whenever you’re about to order. Via this way we ended up during lunch time with a very special omelet: a fluffy three-egg omelet with tasty, preservative-free ham, cherry tomatoes, onions, avocado, mushrooms and sour cream! It was served with home fries and our own choice of bread. Very tasty!

This hut sells alcohol at the top of the slopes. It was cold the day I went to Hinterstoder and a hot grog (warm spiced wine) really did a nice number inside of my system. I also ordered, "Einen hellas beer bitte." This is German for one light beer please. German is the language to speak on this mountain as not many people know too much English. Perhaps this is due to Hinterstoder's location which is deep inside of the Alps. But I didn't let a little bit of language deter me from a great time on the slopes!
Favorite Dish: My favorite drink is a hot grog! It is my favorite because it is a regional specialty.
