Hinterstoder is a truly unique recreational resort offering clean mountain air and unspoilt landscapes in abundance. Forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life in this lovely little town surrounded by the majestic Totes Gebirge mountain range. Among the highlights of the scenic Pyhrn-Priel holiday region rank the EUB Hössbahn takes you to fabulous sights!.
Already in 1910 it was planned to construct a cable car up the mountain from the village Although the route had already been established and enough money was available, construction never actually started due to slow bureaucracy, the turmoil in the Balkans in 1912/13 and World War I. Only when founding a committee in 1926, headquartered in Linz, the construction of the cable car was definitely decided. Construction started on May 15th, 1927 and the EUB Hössbahn was officially opened on April 14th, 1928. The construction sum increased by double the amount estimated (about €260.000,-) due to unexpected building difficulties.

The EUB Hössbahn is located in the center of downtown Hintestoder, just a few steps from the major road. You simply can't miss it. Hinterstoder, like all of the bigger ski resorts use gondolas to transport skiers up the mountain. A gondola is an enclosed carriage (like a cable car). You will need to remove your skis to ride on the gondola. Depending on the gondola, you will bring your skis inside with you, but with this one in Hinterstoder you must place them on an outside rack. You will bring your poles inside the gondola with you. When it is time to exit the gondola, the doors will open and automatically will feel the drive to step out. Remove your skis from the rack (or, if you're carrying your skis, carry them out of the gondola) and leave the gondola unloading area. No need to rush, because the entire system is designed to have more than enough time to leave the area.
After completing the stop at the Mitte Plateau you can enjoy downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding, sledding, snow tubing and lots of other outdoor activities. The sky is the limit I guess!

Maybe its better to understand to have a picture about what you're about see whenever you undertake the journey on the EUB Hössbahn, to know that it will take you from 600 metres towards 1.858 metres altitude. It trully offers breathtaking views at the Totes Gebirge, which is a group of mountains at the Northern Limestone Alps, lying between the Salzkammergut and the Ennstaler Alpen. The name Totes Gebirge is derived from the German words tot meaning "dead", referring to the apparent lack of vegetation, and Gebirge meaning "mountain range". The area is a large karstic plateau with steep sides, and several mountain peaks above 2000 m. The highest point is the summit of Großer Priel, at 2.515 metres. And sitting in the Hössbahn and having a view at this mountain range makes you just being silent and look at it with your mouth open.
Other imposing peaks are: Spitzmauer (2.446 metres) and the Schermberg (2.396 metres). It's really fascinating to see those peaks out of this point of view. The Stunning views of the Alpine mountains will definately leave it in your memories. Although we undertook this journey every morning to get up the Mitte Plateau, each time we were pleasently surprised again!

Are you nervous about taking your baby or child on a plane trip? You aren't alone, most parents are nervous about it. We have moved with Iris and Sam Tarragona Corfu by plane this holiday and drove some distances by car on the island itself and we learned a few things that hopefully will help you.
General:
Bring books, old favourite toys and new surprise toys. Do remember that balls are not a good idea as they can end up anywhere! Our best buys were definitely books, especially sticker books are great! They can peel the stickers off, are glossy, have thick pages to turn easy, have bright colours and come in endless subjects. They're a nice break from the other books your child might be tired of, too. Put aside fears of setting poor eating habits, and bring on the snacks! We told Iris: “Welcome to the world of boredom eating."
Plane:
If your child is big ask for earplugs as soon as you board the aircraft. Make use of them for take-off then save them for landing as the crew may not have any fresh ones left by then. Also let them eat candies, this helps the kids tremendously if they don't know how to pop their ears.
Car:
Toy bars meant for stroller use are a big help in the car, as they often feature toys plus a snack cup, and are big and easy for you to grab from the front seat for refills. During the car trip it’s always a good idea to play a game and sing some songs. It sounds rather easy, but it does work!
Finally:
We only have one last statement! Just do it! Don’t be afraid that it might go wrong. We have learned this, because we have been travelling with Iris from the beginning. She was only 6 weeks young when we had our first short vacation and stayed in a hotel. Iris has been used to it rather fast and (maybe because of it) has always been an easy kid to get along with.

We parked our car in a parking lot at the Lintz, Austria train station. Then we bought our tickets at the ticket booth to the mountain of Hinterstoder. We got off at the Hinterstoder train exit (approx 1 hour later) and then took a bus up the hill. That took like 5 min. We bought the ticket up the hill as part of the train/bus package in Lintz. The bus dropped us off at the Hinterstoder Ski/Snowboard Lodge. It was a bit cold so it was good that I wore my underarmor shirt underneath my snow jacket. I also wore some nice warm snowboarding pants.
