 | Linz Warnings or Dangers | Tips 1 - 4 of 4 | | Popular Warnings or Dangers | Other Warnings or Dangers Tips | All Tips (4) For a city of its size Linz felt very safe, but obviously you should take the usual precautions. There were a few rough looking characters in the centre, but they weren't bothering anyone. The only thing that disturbed me about the city was the beggars. They were completely harmless, not aggressive like in some cities, but they had a peculiar manner of genuflecting, bent down on their knees with hands outstretched, rocking back and forth in a most pitiful manner. I was surprised that people could humiliate themselves in this way, and I don't know if that is a reflection on the generosity of the Linzer people, or if it is just a traditional way of begging in that region of the world. It was effective, inducing in me feelings of such pity that I immediately reached into my pocket for some change, but after a few streets of this, I obviously became inured. Not a danger, but not pleasant either. Leave a Comment

In the area of Brucknerhaus / Schiffanlegestelle - ( the pier for the cruiseships ) - plenty of people spend the evening in that park and police-controls might happen like I once had, when I selpt in my motorhome on a parking nearby and was told by police, it is forbidden. - I never had this problem before - not in Austria,UK,IRL,DK... - but I told the policeman, I'll take the ship to Passau in the morning, and he finally gave in ! ;-) Leave a Comment

Do not stay in the hostel on the other side of the Danube (away from the Hauptplatz) and it is located in Linz's tallest building. You have to go through a weird parking garage in a gigantic building and the place is full of bizarre carnies. Most Pensionen on the main Hauptplatz in Linz are fine and inexpensive compared to other areas of Austria. Leave a Comment
