Empress Maria Theresia in Mondsee

A monument in front of the church shows the Austrian Empress Maria Theresia, who obviously payed a visit to Mondsee.
I will make a research about the historical background of this monument.
BTW.: Empress Maria Theresia had 16 children...

old costumes in the monastery-museum

Inside the monastery you may visit a museum with local exhibits like these costumes, some old paintings and sculptures of the church.
This museum was in fact not very special, in my opinion, BUT at least it gave me the idea to visit the Rauchhaus, that I would have missed otherwise.

beehives under the roof

Under the roof you may see a beehive.
This was another step in order to be independent from buying anything in a local store.
Beeing independant and able to produce all goods of everday life was an important goal of all farmers of these ancient times.

Inside one of the barns you may see this old machinery, obviously some sort of a press.

When you click on my pic, you may see it even has some ornaments on the press.
In the back an old harrow (Egge)

the old watermill

There is also a small watermill inside the museum.
You may not enter this mill, but simply walk around and have a look from outside.
Some millstones are there as well shown there in front of the building.

wooden nails

Even the nails were made of wood in these ancient times, as iron was extremely expensive and not available mostly.

When you click on my pic, you may see these great wooden nails, that even add something like a decoration to the old wood.

Mondsee

All of the family of the framer and also his employees were having their meals there.
Everything looks very simply today , but for that time plenty of people were happy to be able to work on a farm for free lodging and food and a few coins every month.
No unions then, no pensions, no social welfare - just the goodwill of the farmers, when you were too old to work...

Mondsee

An "Einbaum" is a boat that was cut out of a single trunk of a tree.
In the back of my pic you may see a shed that coveres 2 of these ancient boats.

On my pic you also see another type of well, that was mostly the only supply of water on a farm.
Just imagine the strong winters with the frozen wells beeing the only way to wash yourself.

Rauchhaus in Mondsee - the old barn

The old barn in the back of one of the buildings shows old carriages and a lot more farm-equipment of the ancient times.
You may walk all of the buildings on your own, without a guided tour.
And if you take pics, nobody will mind, in the contrary !
