Steyr was the first town in...

by globetrott

Steyr was the first town in Europe to get street-lights with electricity in Europe and here you may see this first electricity-plant in Steyr (it is not in use any more - but looks even more romantic that way...)

Berggasse

by globetrott

This is Berggasse - about 50 meters above the Town-square.Its pedestrian area and you will see plenty of nice buildings there as well.Like the house on the left - it was the home of that person - I am not sure about the word : HENKER - the one in charge of the "Gouillotine"Today this house is part of Stadthotel Styria and you may rent it

old watermills turned into private houses

by globetrott

many of the old watermills are used today as private houses...with a small garden around and a terrace facing the water.Infortunately the flood gets there every year

by globetrott

Take a walk along the Steyr-Wehrgraben - it is actually not the real river STEYR, but an artificial branch to bring the water to the power-plants and hammer-works.

The old town-wall in Berggasse

by globetrott

In Berggasse you may see the very last remain of the former town-wall.Its just a very small house and the balcony and the gate you may walk through

1st powerplant

by globetrott

have a closer look for the technique of the powerplant.you may walk into it a bit freely, but simply be careful !!!

Tip Photo
Wehrgraben

by globetrott

Take a walk in Wehrgraben to the very end - its mostly a walk outside of car-trafic and a stroll besides the small side-arm of the river Steyr

Tip Photo
Museum Arbeitswelt

by globetrott

Museum Arbeitswelt shows the history of industrial work with ups and downs, times of beginning and peak of industrialisation, times of unemployment...

Tip Photo
Museum Arbeitswelt

by globetrott

a small river flows through the museum and shows this lock , where it enters the river Steyr again

Wehrgraben

Water-wheels might be seen a lot in the old Wehrgraben. This artificial river was built for the hammerworks and watermills and powerplants only
