This fairly large cafe/bakery offers an exceptional selection of sweet treats! It was established in 1537 and is the oldest lebzelterei (gingerbread bakery) in Austria, as they proclaim. Their gingerbread is especially good and they have several varieties. It's made on the premises and tastes great! It's right on the main street so you can't miss it!

By far, one of the larger restaurants we saw in Sankt Wolfgang, it is also very famous. It gets it's fame from the famous operetta composed by Ralph Benatzky in 1930. The operetta has been translated into four languages and tells about a holiday romance on the Wolfgangsee.
It's name means "The White Horse Inn" It was built in 1878 and has remained a family run business for several generations. It really seems that they've been doing something very right. Not only was the food extremely delicious, but the view of the lake and mountains was beyond words.
Each meal was prepared with great care and very elaborate display. The main courses were stupendous and the desserts, phenomenal!
Certainly every visitor must stop here and dine! At the very least, you get to enoy the beautiful view of the lake so be sure to ask for a seat on the terrace! It's perfect for honeymooners or any romantic getaway!!!
I went with one of my favorite Austrian dishes, Schwein Medallions (Pork medallions)! It was seasoned and seared to perfection! Yummy!!!!
Liz had the Plum dumplings which were also superb!

Schutzhaus is the german expression for an alpine hut, where you may find shelter in the mountains, during bad weather conditions.
They have a great terrace with a wonderful panorama-view and a great kitchen with local food.

St. Wolfgang has been a place of pilgrimage since centuries, this is one of the
reasons , you will also find a " Lebzelterei " in St.Wolfgang.
It is a place where traditionally gingerbread was produced.
Konditorei is an Austrian word for a bakery, specialized in fine cakes, confectionary
and high quality coffe, teas and hot chocolate.
So it is THE place to go for hungry pilgrims !

Michael and I had a decent dinner at this place just west of the town center near the lakefront. We sat outside on the deck and enjoyed the nice weather and good food.

In the main square, you'll find the Hotel-Gasthof Weisser Bar where I had a really delicious salad. The interior of the restaurant is pretty basic, but neat and clean. There's a bar, some outdoor seating and plenty of tables inside.

Not so much for food sampled here - just a coffee - but the incedible lake panorama from its viewing terrace of the Salzkammergut.

The Backerai Konditorai Cafe Gandl is a bakery which has nice breads, cakes and other pastries (and the price is reasonable). It is conveniently located at the St Wolfgang town centre area just next to the post office and near to the tourist information centre.
If you are on a budget, then you may want to consider the breads, cakes or pastries from this bakery and buy some drinks from the nearby grocery stores. There are some benches just next to this place, so you can have your meals and enjoy the atmosphere of the town. My wife and I did just that in June 2007, and it was very enjoyable and relaxing (and of course helps to save some money).
