Sankt Wolfgang im Salzkammergut Warnings Or Dangers

Being a tourist attraction near to Salzburg, St Wolfgang can be very crowded with tourists especially during summer season. Therefore, plan ahead especially if you want to stay in the town for a few days. Buses and ships to this town should not be a problem as there are many buses and ships every day (see my transportation tips). However, you need to book early if you want to take the Cog-railway train up to Schafberg as the train schedule and seating capacity is limited. One advice is that when you reach St Wolfgang, go to the train station and get the tickets first if you are interested to go up to Schafberg mountain, then go back to the town and explore it while waiting for your turn to take the train (give yourself about 1-2 hours to explore the town, you can come back again after visiting Schafberg as there should be enough time. However, it will be rather packed if you intend to visit nearby St Gilgen town as well).

Just like other mountainous regions, the weather in the Salzkammergut region is rather unpredictable. It may be sunny in Salzburg and the weather here may be totally different. However thanks to the internet and webcams, you can check out the actual weather in St Wolfgang and surroundings while at your hotel in Salzburg (I did that myself). In order to do that, go to the Salzkammergut website http://www.salzkammergut.at/alias/salzkammergut/en and click onto the "Web Cams" section. Then choose the place you want to view. I think the best and most updated is the webcam at the White Horse Inn of St Wolfgang at http://www.salzkammergut.at/alias/salzkammergut/en

Also, you can check the weather forecast for the next few days using popular internet weather reports such as the Weather Underground (see website below). Generally if you want good views, the better seasons would normally be autumn and winter. During spring and especially summer, the hotter and more humid weather tends to build up clouds in the mountains (especially in the afternoon). Best time of the day free of clouds would be mornings and evenings, but this all depends on your luck.
