In the Nature Reserve Area 'Gesause' there are some rivers that you can raft on! A few companies provide trips for both experienced and unexperienced thrill seekers.We were the unexperienced ones and loved it! Our trip went to the Salza river which usually is a category III, but that didn't apply anymore (again because of the rains). The water level was very high according to our 'fuhrer' and we could therefore raft for 14 km!The trip was fantastic! (Although we would ride a river with more adrenaline effects the next time, it was a good first start.)What also made the rafting so great was the completely unique ecosystem of the woods around the river. When people think of scuba diving they usually form a picture in their minds of tropical sites with corals and beautifully coloured fish. (I must admit, this is my addiction). But diving in the Austrian lakes is a totally different experience. Unfortunately we had bad visibility compared to normal days, because of all the floating particles the rivers brought into the lake (due to the terrible rains). Nevertheless we got to experience a little bit of that amazing clearness that is normal for Austrian waters at greater depth. You feel like you're swimming in a diamond!The life in the lakes is not overwhelming, but certainly interesting, as are the underwater woods.
