Night settles on Steyr.

By far, Steyr's rich architecture and strategic location at the confluence of the Steyr and Enns River makes it a must vist place for any visitor to this area. Plus, paying a visit to everybody's good friend Michael (globetrott) is always a plus!

As night descended on Steyr, we were crossing the river over a small foot bridge and I looked towards the Michaelerkirche and to my surprise, I could see the reflection of the church against the Steyr River. I immediately pulled out my camera and took the best shot I could considering the lack of light and overcast conditions. Admiring this view was one of my fondest memories of Steyr.

	Steyr - Garsten Monastery with a secret Tip Rating:

Michael took us first to see the Garsten Monastery. Yes, this is the one with a secret. We could not photograph it because of the surveillence cameras, but the grounds of the monastery have been divided. One half is the monastery, the other half is a jail, yes, a jail. It starts just off to the right hand side of where this picture stops, amazing.

	Steyr - Hotel Mader courtyard Tip Rating:

Michael took us to explore a little in the Hotel Mader and this was one of the sights that we got to see. This is one of the interior courtyards of the hotel and it is almost impossible to discern here, but each and every one of the colums is worked differently and each floor has its own design along the wall.

The altar area, from the lifesize or larger statues on the upper level, to the candles and crosses, from the table to the floor itself, details, hundreds of small details. You sort of need to stand back and slow down to be able to absorb all that you are seeing. I can well believe when an uneducated person, 100 years ago, who was let into the "presence" of this over abundance of wealth and riches would fee that he or she was overpowered by the influence of their god.

	Steyr - the castle entrance Tip Rating:

This is the main street of downtown Steyr and on the right the angled street that leads into the Lamberg castle. You can see the tiny street that is Stadplatz, the main street. From here you walk only a few hundred yards through old beautifuly preserved buildings to the center of town where the steet suddenly widens into the plaza.

Well Michael will probably never talk to me again, because I forgot the name of this building, but Michael if you can send me the name ......
Still just to wander the main street of Steyr and enjoy seeing the grand architecture in all its glory, well even if you can't remember the name of the building it will have been time well spent.
Okay, so I can now make an update, Michael kindly wrote me a letter and "reminded" me that this was the Sternhaus. So once again Michael I need to thank you for a tour of Steyr.

	Steyr - Dunklhof courtyard Tip Rating:

Now this place we would never have see because it is a courtyard and you would have to be an insider like Michael to know it is there, so thanks go once again to you. This is the courtyard of the Dunklhof family and well worth taking the time to examine all the colums of both the lower and upper floors. Each and every colum has a distinct design. Try to imagine sitting at your leisure in this courtyard on a hot summer day.

	Steyr - narrow streets Tip Rating:

We toured around narrow streets as you can see here and these are not "pedestrian" streets only, you would sometimes have to flatten yourself to let cars pass. I guess the term "up against the wall" might come from here.. Zohara and Tal could not figure out why all the streets lead UP and not DOWN, there must be a rule of physics there somewhere, an axiom that says "Whenever you tour all roads will lead up, regardless of direction!!".

	Steyr - wine cellar Tip Rating:

Well it sure does not do to go to a place that cannot serve you a great glass of wine. Well Michael took us to "sample" the wine cellar in the hotel Mader and they were very well stocked. I can still imagine having something like this at home, it would not stay full for very long with a little help from our friends ;O)))
