As with all these tourist cards, you need to do your homework to see if it's viable to buy or not. I did this, and for us it was, so we bought ours from our Pension, and began using it straight away, as we caught a Bus into the city centre. The Salzburg Card provides free admission to all the sights in the City of Mozart, free use of the public...

  • Mirabell gardens

    Salzburg Favorites

We were three blocks from Mirabell Gardens and walked by them a half a dozen times without realizing what it was. On our last day, we discovered them about 20 minutes before our bus was to leave for a tour we took to Berchdesgaden. We only got to spend about 10 minutes in the Gardens, and it was raining, but it was still beautiful.

  • Dome/Cathedral

    Salzburg Favorites

This is going to be hard to explain. Looking directly at the front of the Dome, walk back so you are past the statue of Mary and through the arches across the way. If you back up far enough and then walk slowly forward you'll see that the crown on the cathedral actually slowly places itself on Mary's head when you walk toward the cathedral. This...

  • Architecture

    Salzburg Favorites

Upon entering the old town one cannot help but to notice the sturdy construction of the tunnel even though it was built between 1764 and 1767. One of the examples of the magnificent old architectural work that still stood strong unchallenged by the urban modernization The City & The Weather!

  • Hohensalzburg

    Salzburg Favorites

This very well preserved cannon and thee others just like it remain aimed out of the portals of Hohensalzburg's Katze bastion. The heavy cast iron portal doors remain open these days. The bastion and its artillery were added during the 30 years war of the mid 1600's. ( yes, this ancient artillery is authentic and not a modern day duplication ). The...

Start wandering from RESIDENZPLATZ. Upon reaching Salzburg, we were given half the day to explore on our own. Happily with my new found friend, a Japanese girl & a couple from Israel, we proceed to check out buildings, streets & the watchtower.

  • Churches

    Salzburg Favorites

Music and Mozart are everywhere, you can't miss them. I would recommend visiting the churches particularly if the heat and humidity are high. Few places have air conditioning, but the places of worship have a wide variety of architecture and are cool enough to permit taking the time to appreciate the artistry.

Besides the cool little streets with beautiful shops and the amazing view from the fort, the Sound of Music tour was great! My mom and I took it in February when the "Hills were alive with..." SNOW and it was still fun. Visiting Mozarts' home. Get the headphones and take the tour. Wow. So much history in such a small place. Truly touching.
