 | Krimml Things To Do | Tips 1 - 10 of 23 | | Popular Things To Do | Other Things To Do Tips | All Tips (23) The Krimml Water Falls are described as "The Wonderful World of Water" I would rename it "A great place to catch a rainbow" especially on a sunny day. We saw so many rainbows appear at the different look off points and magically over the river too. Krimml water fall holds Austria's only Conservation Diploma awarded in 1967 - the award has been repeated every five years. A steep but well maintained path with safe view points allows all abilities to access the falls. The weather was so hot the day we visited the fall the estimated time of reaching the restaurant in 20 minutes was greatly increased while we stayed a while enjoying the spray from the cool waters, watching the rainbows appear and enjoying our time here. To view the whole of the falls you have to be at the visitors centre (see photo 2) here you can see the whole 380 meters as they cascade their way down towards the river. I enjoyed being high up with the wonderful sights and sounds of natures marvelous water up close and personal. The falls are open from 1st. May through to 31st. October from 9.30 till 17.00 price is 1.80 euros for adults and 50 euro cent for children. While we were up at the middle falls look offs we saw many wild flowers some growing in what would seem solid rock all watered by the cool spray coming off the falls. I was surprised to see the thistles - they had smooth leaves with no stings unlike the kind I find back home. The tiny bluebells (I don't think that would be there name here!) were enchanting with their deep blue hues. After looking at the tiny beauties we took a long look at the bigger picture - you really do get the best views from on high - the little village of Krimml with its Church as the centre piece. The tree clad valley - the surrounding mountains and the river rushing far below. A magical totally clean and green vista stretched out before us - a truely picture postcard view can await you here too. Leave a Comment

The Krimml Waterfalls are the highest in Austria (380 metres high) and Austria's only natural monument that has a European diploma (the Conservation Diploma awarded in 1967). The waterfalls are divided into the lower falls, middle falls and upper falls, with well marked and paved trails going all the way up (it is quite steep at some parts). Along the way, there are benches for people to take a rest and admire the scenery, as well as several lookout points. Going all the way up will take about 4-5 hours (I only reached the middle falls due to time constraint, and the fact that I am on my honeymoon and not a hiking trip). The main lookout points are as follows: Riemann Kanzel (1110m) Regen Kanzel (1150m) Sendtner Kanzel (1170m) Jung Kanzel (1215m) Jagasprung (1220m) Bergersteig (1245m) Schonangerl (1306m) Bergerblick (1420m) Schetkanzel (1460m) More photos of the Krimml Waterfalls are at the travelogue section of this VT page. During the 1.5 hours journey, you will be travelling in a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains, farmland and several towns such as Kaprun (you can see from a distance, Mittersill, Uttendorf, Hollersbach etc. As you approach the town of Krimml and the waterfalls, the valley will become narrower. Krimmler Wasserfälle Beautiful Waterfalls, easy to reach if you remain at the lower falls and a very steep climb, though easy to walk footpath brings you up to the middle and upper falls. With it's 3 falls of in total 380 meters it's the highest waterfall of Europe and the fifth highest of the whole world. The upperfalls are 140 meters, the middle falls are 100 meters and the lower falls 140 meters again. The power of the falls depend on the amount of snow fallen in winter. One of the greatest attractions of Austria. The spectacular Krimmler Falls are the highest in the Austrian Alps. They fall from total height of 380m and crash their way over three stunning cascades with the most impressive at 140m high. The Krimmler River is a tributary of the Salzach River and is located in the beautiful Hohe Tauern National Park. Leave a Comment

The Krimml Waterfalls are situated within the Hohe Tauren National Park of Austria, which also include the Grossglockner Road (see my VT Grossglockner page). The area around Krimml Waterfalls became park of this National Park in 1983 and this is a good move in order to preserve the beauty of this magnificent waterfalls and it's surrondings. This is a theme park along the road near to the entrance of Krimml Waterfalls (opposite the OBB postbus stop). It consists of a House of Water (where kids can enjoy games, experiments, art with water etc), Aqua-Park (open air park) and multivision cinema showing the importance of water. I did not go to this theme park but you can consider going there, especially if you are bringing your kids along :) Leave a Comment

When you are at Krimml Waterfalls, you will notice that there are lots of water mist (i.e. droplets) blowing from the waterfall depending on the wind direction. Due to this, there is an area next to the waterfall which is constantly sprayed with water and this has allowed the growth of simple plants such as mosses and lichens which otherwise would not have survived without a moist environment.
