There is a statue of the ram (see photo) near the entrance to the Krimml Waterfalls, which is very popular for photo taking among tourists because there is also a good view of the Krimml Waterfalls at this location.
There are several souvenir shops including Hanke at the entrance area to the waterfalls. It is worth checking out the wide varieties of souvenirs because those with the Krimml Waterfalls markings cannot be found elsewhere in Austria. Also, I think the prices are quite reasonable compared to elsewhere in Austria which I have visited.
It is very easy to move around Krimml Waterfalls as the trails are well paved and marked. There is an information kiosk (see photo) just next to the entrance ticket booth as well as many good signages to direct you to your destination. Brochures can be obtained from the information kiosk. Also, there are some big information panels (see photo) near to the Hanke sourvenir shops at the entrance which give good information about the waterfalls, surrounding areas as well as the wildlife found here.
The Krimml Waterfalls are situated within the Hohe Tauren National Park of Austria, which also include the Grossglockner Road (see my VT Grossglockner page). The area around Krimml Waterfalls became park of this National Park in 1983 and this is a good move in order to preserve the beauty of this magnificent waterfalls and it's surrondings.
The Krimml Waterfalls are the highest in Austria (380 metres high) and Austria's only natural monument that has a European diploma (the Conservation Diploma awarded in 1967). The waterfalls are divided into the lower falls, middle falls and upper falls, with well marked and paved trails going all the way up (it is quite steep at some parts). Along the way, there are benches for people to take a rest and admire the scenery, as well as several lookout points. Going all the way up will take about 4-5 hours (I only reached the middle falls due to time constraint, and the fact that I am on my honeymoon and not a hiking trip). The main lookout points are as follows:
Riemann Kanzel (1110m)
Regen Kanzel (1150m)
Sendtner Kanzel (1170m)
Jung Kanzel (1215m)
More photos of the Krimml Waterfalls are at the travelogue section of this VT page.
You need to pay an entrance fee of 1.80 euros per adult and 0.5 euros per children (between 6-15 years old) at the entrance of the Krimml Waterfalls. The counter staff are friendly and can communicate in English.
From the town of Zell Am See, you can take an air-conditioned OBB Postbus number 670 to Krimml Waterfalls (see my transportation tip). During the 1.5 hours journey, you will be travelling in a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains, farmland and several towns such as Kaprun (you can see from a distance, Mittersill, Uttendorf, Hollersbach etc. As you approach the town of Krimml and the waterfalls, the valley will become narrower. More photos are at the travelogue section of this VT page.
Krimmler Water fall - One of the highest waterfalls in the region. For Indian tourist it should be a must to visit to see how a tourist place in the nature can be maintained besides it is a beautiful place in the Salzburg region of Austria.
The spectacular Krimmler Falls are the highest in the Austrian Alps. They fall from total height of 380m and crash their way over three stunning cascades with the most impressive at 140m high.
The Krimmler River is a tributary of the Salzach River and is located in the beautiful Hohe Tauern National Park.
Beautiful Waterfalls, easy to reach if you remain at the lower falls and a very steep climb, though easy to walk footpath brings you up to the middle and upper falls.
With it's 3 falls of in total 380 meters it's the highest waterfall of Europe and the fifth highest of the whole world.
The upperfalls are 140 meters, the middle falls are 100 meters and the lower falls 140 meters again.
The power of the falls depend on the amount of snow fallen in winter.
One of the greatest attractions of Austria.
