Mozart Platz, Salzburg
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in this town and you can visit his birth home that is located in the old city center. He was born in 1756 and died in 1791. Mozart is touted as one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time and was sough after through out Europe to play for kings and queens.
Fondest memory: While here you may just acquire a taste for classical music.
Without a doubt, go see the Residenzplatz.... or, Hohensalzburg, or St. Peter's Cemetary... no, the Salzburg Cathedral is a must... no, don't forget the Glockenspiel... no, you must dine at Sacher Cafe and try those sacher tortes... umm..... Mozartplatz is a must see, and his Geburtshaus. (ok...you decide.)
Fondest memory: In addition to the most pleasurable people residing in Baroque Salzburg, the landscape that cradles this remarkable city makes my heart beat a little faster with every treasured memory.
Mozart Museum: a must-see? I'm not sure, when I reached it, with the long queue of anonimous tourists, I did not feel pushed in..... Maybe I lost some important first-hand document of Mozart's life, but I found his spirit walking around in the streets.
Fondest memory: The city centre, the Old one, is dominated by two hills. On the top of one hill: a huge fortress, on the top of the second a monastery, while the third is decorated by small palces and a lovely church. Amid the hills, river Saalbach flows across the buildings surrounded by two green slopes on which it is a real pleasure to have rest in an autumn sunny days. When leaves begin to colour and fall, when the Sun is not so hot and the air is fresh.
Being a lover of Mozart's music, this was a superb city to visit as well as being such a pretty one. The old charm through the streets with all the Austrian crafts and clothing was just wonderful. Everything was seen in such a hurry and I would like to go back and spend more time really taking in the city and atmosphere, not to mention attending a concert.
Favorite thing: Mozart Platz is a nice square in the main part of the city... We came across lots of fake cows painted all different colours here...it was great! :)
Favorite thing: Mozarts Geburtshaus is where he lived for the first 17 years of his life. Displays include the mini-violin that Wolfgang played as a toddler.
Favorite thing: Go with the music: As with Vienna, which is the land of J. Strauss & Schubert, Salzburg has Mozart! This city with a population of less than 150,000 is Mozart's birthplace.
