    Horse Riding

In Salzburg there are few facilities for horse riding. The best I know is about 10 km north from Salzburg in Seekirchen (Lake Wallersee). It is a wonderful horse-ranch with many nice horses, you can take a course or a ride outside. The prices are ca. 10 €.

    Better for skiing than Sochi

by Anjutka Written Jul 6, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

OK, the 2014 Winter Olympics will take place in Sochi at the Black Sea and not in Alpine Salzburg and I have the impression that most of the "Bullwashers" are not unhappy about that because two Winter Olympics in the not so far Innsbruck have shown that all what normal people get from it are high prices and in a further future some expensive Olympic ruins. But Salzburg has even without any Winter Olympics plenty of great skiing areas in its wider surroundings which can be reached in an hour from the city. But swimming etc. in Summer is definitely better in Sochi at the Black Sea. The lakes in Salzkammergut are wonderful but a sunny weather like in Sochi is rather seldom.

    Hoops crazy

There was an outdoor, 3 on 3 basketball tournament going on while I was in Salzburg in late June. It reminded me of a tournament called "Hoop it Up" that I used to play in every year in the States. It was held in Kapitelplatz and the competitors seemed to be taking things very seriously. Then again, I have to say, it was nowhere close to the level of competition I've seen in the US.

Kapitelplatz, on the south side of the Cathedral, is the place where you can find a rather large chess board with figures, so you can give it a go, if you find the time.
