If you have a few days in Salzburg, you should really consider to do a trip to Salzkammergut to see something of the wonderful mountain scenery near Salzburg. It is an area of many beautiful lakes, little villages and quaint architecture. You can visit these villages, do boat trips on one of the lakes or even go hiking.

Of course you can do a trip with your own car, but if you travel without car, there are many daytrips on offer. I did a daytrip with Salzburg Sightseeing Tours and it was really good. We had a glimpse on Lake Gosau, visited the village of Hallstatt which is UNESCO cultural heritage and after that famous St. Wolfgang. From there we did a spectacular boat trip to St. Gilgen where we had some time before going back to Salzburg.

Of course such daytrips are a bit rushed but I still find them a good possibility if you want to see something of the surroundings.

Of course there are many more sights and places in the Salzkammergut - have a look at the VT pages of other members or at http://www.salzkammergut.at/en

    Wolfgangsee

Just outside Salzburg are many alpine lakes in a fantastic setting. Wolfgangsee is simply one of them. Part of our tour of this area included a boat ride on this lake. There are some picturesque towns along the water's edge and many mountains in the immediate vicinity. If you have a day with nice weather, I highly recommend getting out on this lake or one like it. It was a beautiful ride up to the lake from Salzburg. After seeing this, you will quickly miss being here.

    St. Wolfgangsee

Visiting the lakes east of Salzburg. The entire area is full with charming lakes, surrounded by mountains. There are plenty of little towns and villages where you can relax and have a drink, and of course there is plenty of water sports in the lakes during summer time. In the winter you can enjoy skiing and other winter sports. Shown here is St. Wolfgangsee as seen from the village of St. Gilgen.

Fuschel Lake. The nearst of three lakes in Salzburg City. it is the smallest but the most beautiful of the three. Many family hotels around. In the family hotel the father work in the front disk during the day. the wife supervise all the cleaning of rooms and resturant orders. the sun works at the front disk at night. the Beautiful doughter works at the Bar at night. Mother make a round to see what missing in rooms after sun sit and talk to guests and provide them with extra Blankets or pillos if necessary. You will like it. if you are leaving the hotel to Italy for example mother can exchange the Austrian money to italian money from her private money holdings. All trays vase water buttles are colorful. when you order something to your room a beautiful lady wears a traditional cloth brings it to you. It is just a beautiful life to stay in these family Hotels in Austria.
