Sankt Veit im Pongau Things to Do
St Veit is a climatic spa and also has a so-called "spa gardens" which rather is a meadow with some trees – nothing I’d call spa gardens! However next to it is an "oasis of tranquility", with some benches, a Kneipp basin and something like wooden sunbeds which are very comfortable! It’s a great place to relax!
There’s a nice hiking path from St Veit to the top of the Hochglocker (1590m) which offers you great views and also some so-called "Ruheoasen" (oases of tranquility) – picnic places with wooden sun lounger to relax. Even directly below the summit you find such comfortable sun loungers!
It took us about 3 hours to the summit, walking up all the time, most of the time on “normal” roads and forest roads. But we were rewarded by many nice views! If you don’t want to walk that long you can drive up to the Kinderalm/ abbey “Maria im Paradies” and park there. Shortly after that place we did reach the first “Ruheoase”. The second was on the top, where you have fantastic views on St Veit and Schwarzach and of the mountains of the Tennengebirge and Tauerngebirge. As we took another way down we reached a third “Ruheoase” which even had a hanging sun lounger – it was so relaxing with a nice view on some mountains (probably the Hochkönig mountains) that we didn’t want to leave!Related to:
- Hiking and Walking
The market square is found directly in front of the church and was constructed in the 12th century. It’s not large but there are nice houses around. At the market square, there are some restaurants, a small supermarket and also the tourist information (Markt 12). The tourist information unfortunately was only open in the morning (Monday to Friday 9:00-12:00), but at least the ones in Schwarzach and Goldegg were open in the afternoon.
Sankt Veit im Pongau Restaurants
The Laterndl-Wirt is a restaurant as well as a guesthouse with some rooms. They serve local dishes which were very good. The people were nice and as we really liked the food we went there a second time for dinner and enjoyed each time.
Open after 16:00 (10:30am on Sundays or public holidays). Closed on Monday.
