    Organized Bus Tour

To save time and trouble, I chose an organized bus tour. I forgot the name of the tour. I'll look for it. It was not cheap though, around 60 euros (Sept, 2004). It's got a hotel pick-up, and it leaves from Salzburg around noon and comes back around 6 or 7 pm. I was happy with it.

How to get to the Ice Caves

When you leave the train station, cross the bridge and follow the path on the right side of the road with the small sign saying "Bus to Ice Caves". This will take you to the minibus stop, which will take you 5 km up the mountain (5,90 euro roundtrip). There is a 20-minute walk uphill to the cable car (15 euro roundtrip including entrance to caves), and an additional 25-minute walk uphill (up 600 m elevation) to the entrance of the caves.

    Munich to Werfen

by rharlan Written Jul 27, 2004

We picked up our rental car in Munich. Thanks to a VT member, I had gone to Via Michelin city maps and had my handy dandy printout. A1 to A10 - no problems. In contrast some wedding guests were in a back -up due to an accident on the highway. But driving on the main highways was quite easy. Just do your research on road signs before you depart.
    By car:
Arriving from the north: via the A 10 Tauern Autobahn, take the Pass Lueg or Werfen exit.
Arriving from the south: take the Pfarrwerfen/Werfen exit off the autobahn
