Favorite thing: My wife and I were very lucky to be able to see a rainbow over Zeller See (lake) and the surrounding mountains during the late afternoon when we arrived at Zell Am See in June 2007. Rainbows can be seen at the interface between strong sunlight and rainy weather together with dark clouds.
Favorite thing: If you are taking the train from Zell Am See to Worgl and Innsbruck, you will be treated to some of the most beautiful sceneries in Europe, passing by farmland, hills, mountains and valleys. Please go to the travelogue section of this VT page for more photographs. Generally, the trains in Austria are clean, comfortable and punctual and train is one of the best ways of travelling in Austria.
One of my fondest memories of Zell Am See is the breathtaking views of the town, lake and surrounding mountains from the balcony of my hotel room at Berner Hotel (see website below and my accomodation tips at this VT page). My wife and I stayed at a room facing the lake and had a wonderful time there, I would recommend Hotel Berner to anyone planning to visit and stay at Zell Am See.
One evening there were some festivities in the town. Normally I would'nt listen to Tiroler Like music, but in this particular setting it is very what Austrians say "gemütlich".
It is perfect within the setting of the mountains and gives a lot of joy!
Favorite thing: Been to Zell am See two times. The first time was in October when I discovered Kaisserschmarren , a sugared pancake. Have eaten these pancakes in other places in Austria ( Kitzbuhel for instance) but the Zell am See ones were the best . The second visit to Zell am See was in late January . The mountain side restaurants were serving grapefruit size pastries , in various shapes and with various ingredients . The locals were eating these things throughout the day, not just after lunch . We eventually gave in .
