Zell am See: The Hundertwasser - Brunnen

by globetrott Written Oct 7, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is something that might be of some interest for all fans of friedensreich Hundertwasser, the famous austrian painter & architect: Hundertwasser's Austria-fountain
    in Zell am See
You will find it inside the area of the Grand-Hotel, next to the lake. It looks quite interesting and colorfull like all works by F. Hundertwasser and it is accessible all day and night. The water is pumped to the very top and will finally flow down in these stonebridges, thats all.
-------HOW TO GET TO ZELL am SEE--------
It is quite easy to get to Zell am See by train and the trainstation is also right in the middle of the village and just a few meters from the lake, the Zeller See. You will find some lockers for your luggage at this station and you can change there as well to the narrow-gauge trains of Pinzgauerbahn that takes you to Krimmler Wasserfaelle, the highest waterfalls of Austria.
For the timetables of trains, please check my link here !

    Kaprun: dont miss the Sigmundklamm

by globetrott Updated Oct 7, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is an interesting hike in the area around of Zell am see and Kaprun: Sigmund-Klamm !
It is an easy walk and you have to pay some small entrance-fee before you will be able to walk over and along a fresh mountain-stream making its way through the rocks. At the end of the Sigmund-Klamm you can decide, whether you go back all the way that you came through the Klamm or you might take another path through the woods as well.
The total walkingtime from the carpark through the Klamm and back will be around 1,5 hours.
    Sigmundklamm is open for visitors:
from end of May till end of September
    daily from 09.00am-05.0pm
entrancefee was 3,30 euros in 2009

    Schloss Prielau

    Schloss Prielau

Schloss Prielau in the north of Zell am See
When you have a car and explore the area around Zell am See and the Zellersee, this might be a great place for a stop for a few minutes, or even longer, when you are hungry and are looking for a great cafe and restaurant:
Schloss Prielau is a lovely castle in the north of Zell am See and it is mainly used as a hotel and restaurant nowadays. I went there and had a look around, also the interior is very interesting and the garden-restaurant is a great place to relax far away from the trafic noises.
In the backyard of that hotel there is also an interesting, old church, see it in my last 2 photos.
It was interesting for me to learn that this palace is owned by the Porsche-family and the hotelguests can use the hotel's own Porsche Cayenne in wintertime and a Porsche Boxter in summertime !

There is a great vintage-car-museum in Kaprun

by globetrott Updated Apr 4, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Vötter's Fahrzeugmuseum Kaprun is an interesting vintage-carmuseum inside the hotel Sport-Kristall in Kaprun & that is just a few km from Zell am See. The museum shows about 150 cars and even the smallest space of the museum-halls are crammed with a car. You will find a lot of cars that you might remember from a long time ago, and most of them are are not "shining" like in other museums, but they rather look like to be in a private garage, waiting to be repaired or so.
I really enjoyed this place, it is just a pity that some of the most precious cars you almost cannot take a photo of, because they are hidden behind many other cars.
    The museum is open daily
    10.00am - 06.00pm

It is not easy to find this museum, except that you drive through the village of Kaprun in direction to the castle and stop at the Hotel Sport-Kristall, that also has an ancient train of the emperor standing in its frontyard.

    SCHLOSS SAALHOF

by balhannah Updated Mar 26, 2012

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

When I saw Schloss Saalhof, I thought it was just another Castle.
In fact, it is a Hotel with accommodation available including a Farmstay and a Mountain Hut.

If you stay there, you can help with the farm activities involving cattle and calves, 20 of are milking cows, 10 pigs (only in the summer), goat, 20 chickens, 4 rabbits, Noriker Simone horse, cats & dog, and even go on a Deer hunt.
They have some cute rabbits, Flecki Punkti, and horse riding even for children. Good riders can go riding on their paths at all times!
During the summer, the cows come in about 5.00 pm for milking and feeding, and you can help bring hay to the stables (for goats, rabbits, cows and the horse Simone) or feed the calves.

It sounds very much like a fun place for the whole family.

Read the website for a lot more information.

    Zell am See Airport

    by RACCOON1 Updated Jul 30, 2004

The Zell an See airport is just south of the town . On a sunny October day , a trip to the airprt could be considered to watch
airplanes/gliders land and take off .

The alpine scenery makes a beautiful backdrop for glider watching .
