Unfortunately was the entrance to the church closed when I visited Eisenerz.Several years ago I could go into this interesting church.St.Oswald is one of the oldest fortified churches in Austria.Built in the late Gothic style the church was first mentioned in 1282.

When I saw the tower first I thought it is a church. The shift tower(Schichtturm) got his name from the bell in the tower which called the miners to work.Built in 1582 it is a Renaissance style building. From the standpoint of the tower you have a wonderful overview above the city.

Walk around the Leopoldsteinersee

Leopoldsteinersee with Eisenerz and the Erzberg

Most people miss the small road branching off on the right when leaving Eisenerz in direction of Hieflau (follow Leopoldsteinersee signpost).
It's an amazing alpine lake with transparent water with reflection of the surrounding mountains.
From the car park you can walk around the lake clokwise, first on a gravel road to where the river exists the lake and then on a small but clearly visible footpath in the forest along the north shore. At the other end of the lake there is a small house selling drinks, snacks and beer bottles that are put to cool in the water of the river.
The walk back to the car park is done on a larger gravel road on the south shore. The whole tour takes about an hour and is also suited for children. In the summer some people actually swim in the lake which is still very cold.

Favorite thing: Leopoldsteinersee is a emerald-green mountain lake.Very clean surrounded by beautiful landscape.Coming from Steyr or Admont or Hieflau it is located at the Northsite of Eisenerz. It is possible to walk around the lake.In wintertime I have seen people ice-skating and curling.

Fondest memory: The history and the beautiful landscape.
