    The airport Graz Thalerhof is at 12 km from the city center.
    There are connections to all major airports with AUA, Lufthansa, swiss ... and one daily ryanair flight from/to London.
    From the airport you can take a bus, a train (both €1,7) or a taxi to the city center.

    Rail timetable: www.oebb.at (von: Graz Flughafen nach: Graz). The train station is at about 500 meters from the airport, so that it's better to take the bus or taxi if it's raining or you have a lot of luggage.

    • An excellent and very economic way to come - even for a short visit - to Graz are the Ryanair flights from London Stansted. You can fly from London Stansted to Graz for the price difference for a reasonable dinner between England and Graz.

    Graz airport is a very small airport, about 5km outside Graz. Once you leave the terminal it's a short walk to the train station from where there is a regular service to the main station in Graz. The journey time is about 10 minutes and tickets cost only a couple of Euro. We bought a 24 hour transport pass for Graz which covered the trains, buses and trams though central Graz is so compact we only used it for the journey in from the airport.

    Best way to go to Graz is to fly to. You have sceudule flights from Munich, Frankfurt, Vienna, London and Zurich to Graz.
    Take public transportation.

    Ryanair now do cheap flights to Graz from London Stansted. A return ticket should be under €70

    • To get to Graz by air you can fly direct from London Standstead with Ryanair who also fly to various other Austrian cities from the UK. But from Ireland, unless you go by charter, I think the only routes are Dublin to Vienna with Aer Lingus, Austrian Airways and Lauda Air (I think). Hopefully Ryanair will start a direct flight there soon.

    Ryanair and Aer Lingus now operate flights from Ireland to a number of cities in Austria (not Graz though)

    Getting to Graz from London will take approximately 2 hours flying.
    Ryanair operates daily flight between STN and GRZ.

    I particularly liked Graz Airport as it has a very Retro feel to it. Its quite obvious that its a new airport so its all nice and clean and new.

    The so-called "Lift im Berg" (lift inside the mountain) takes you from Schlossbergplatz and Kriegsteig directely to the Uhrturm. In Contrary to some brochures printed by the Graz-tourist-office, this lift is NOT included in the means of transportation of the daytickets of buses and trams (ONLY Schlossbergbahn is included !!) BUT each ride is just 50 cents and takes you easily and quickly to the famous Uhrturm.
    The small, black Uhrturm that you may see in front of the real one is ment for blind people, who may "see" the construction of the tower by their hands that way.

    Grazer Schlossberg-Grottenbahn is a small train for children, taking them into the world of dwarfs.
    You may find this small train next to the "Lift im Berg" that takes you up to the Uhrturm.
    The Grazer Schlossberg-Grottenbahn runs daily :
    Monday-Sunday from 10.00a.m. till 05.00p.m.
    Use the entrance below Krieg-steig !

    Schlossberg-Bahn takes you up to the "Casmatten" - the old part of the fortification - there is a great park and an open-air theatre and plenty of places where you may relax or have a break in various restaurants.
    The cable-car is quite steep ( 61% ) and it is taking you up to the hight of 427 meters above sea-level.
    In contrary to the informations in some booklets issued by the city of Graz, the Schlossbergbahn is part of the GVB-Verbund-system and so the daytickets and ordinary bus/tramtickets are valid there as well ! In case that you have a dayticket, you have to get a free ticket from the desk, to open the automatic door of the train.
    Get into the train as soon as the automatic doors will open, and you may get a seat at the great first row with the best panorama-view !!
    The Schlossbergbahn-cablecar is working daily
    from October till May : 10.00a.m.-10.00p.m.
    and from june till september 09.00a.m.-11.00p.m.
