Surprise surprise, the Irish pubs were the cool and groovy places to be seen in in Graz. :)
Flann O'Briens
Molly Malone
O'Carolans
Peggy Sue - an American style bar and diner
During the semester, students can pick up dirt cheap opera tickets on Monday nights.
Graz is a student town, so I found it a bit 'dead' over the Easter holidays when everyone had gone home (and I was stuck writing my thesis!) It's very lively at the weekends - but you dont need me to tell you that!
Dress Code: You'll look fine as you are :) No need to dress up for the pub. :)

Nice bar in the 'Bermudadreieck'. That's direct in the old town of Graz. On Saturdays very many people inside, so there are sometimes allready too many people. There they play nice music. People are between 20 and 30 there.

Very nice bar. Music is not too loude there. There are many students even this local isn't in the students district. There you get also many different beers, like the typical styrian Puntigamer beer - my favourite one *g*!

the best spot is the 'Bermuda Triangle' located a little northeast of the Herrengasse and the Hauptplatz. this area got it's name because the people tend to disappear for several hours ,if they enter this dangerous grounds at night. Great collection of pub, cafe's and nightclubs.
One expensive, but very cool places is the M1, located in the top floors of a rather tall building on the Faerberplatz. The view of the terace is outstanding. Can be pretty crowded sometimes....
The interesting thing there is that the people, the cafe's etc. match no certain category. You can find all kinds of people, students, employees worker, and many more. the same goes for the pubs. from cheap and loud, to expensive and romantic, what ever you need you'll find it.
Dress Code: Denpsnds on your choice of pub, no real recommendation.

The bars can get incredibly packed on weekend nights, so if you're going out for a drink, do it early enough! And please, try to find a place with decent music! :)
