Passing by the Kunsthaus ("The Friendly Alien"), you will arrive at Mariahilferplatz, which is dominated by the monastery with its adjoining cultural centre as well as by the Mariahilferkirche. The church origninally built in the early 17th century received its imposing double tower in 1742.
Its very close to the Kunsthaus and mere steps from the Murinsel, so you can see all three sites in one go.
Standing on the riverbank close to the Mariahilferplatz, also give you good views to Schlossberg, making for good photo opportunities.
Spotted this lovely looking church whilst walking into the city centre. Its very similar looking to the Mariatrost Bascilica. I am not sure what its called, but I thought as I really liked the look of it, I would add it to my page.
This church in the Herrengasse is Late-Gothic with baroque storefront. It was built at beginning of 16. Jhd., as a minster of the Dominican.
When in 1953 the windows (destroyed by bomb attacks in WWII) were renewed, the artist embedded Hitler and Mussolini in a glass window as sardonic spectators of the flagellation of Jesus Christ.
A church on Mariahilferplatz. By logic it should be Mariahilferkirche, correct me if I'm wrong. The reason I don't know the name is that Anita (AussieMadCow) went to check on it, but as it was closed we did not stop for long, only enough to take a couple of photos.
It's a real pity that most churches are closed for visitors outside prayer and mass times.
Located close to the Kunsthaus is the Mariahilfer Church. The twin spired church dates from the early 17th century and the twin towers were completed in 1742.
