From the base station of the Dachstein Glacier gondola is a lovely short walk (about 30 minutes) to the Austria Hutte. Here there is an interesting small alpine museum to enjoy. This hut is one of 5 huts on the classic walk in this area. The pathways are very easy but watch out for the ponies who like to go after your lunch - even when its in a rucksack, they can smell it!

After the Dachstein glacier trip in the morning we rode down the gondola and then made a short hike (45 mins) to the Sudwandhutte for a spot of lunch. The hut has an amazing location, being situated beneath the sheer rock face of the Dachstein south wall. A whole plethora of walks can be continued from here. We opted for a shorter hike down to the Glossalm. Only only a short hike the scenery is stunning and the perfect weather made it even more memorable.

Take the bus or car (toll road) up the alpine Dachsteinstrasse to the the gondola station and ride up for an amazing panorama view of the glacier world. Stand on the sky view platform (not that scary) or take a hike on the glacier. Free ride (once per week) with the sommercard.

Unfortunately I decited to go up to the Sky walk viewing platform on a public holiday. And it was a very sunny, beautiful day:-)))There has been a lot of people which had the same idea as me.Instead of going up to the platform I decided to hike the roundtrail to the Suedwandhuette. And I didn`t regret it a bit!Beautiful walk, possible for anybody, lovely scenery, horses, cattles, sheeps animate the landscape.

Ramsau am Dachstein is located near the city of Schladming. The beautiful town of Ramsau is on a plateau at an altitude of 1200m above sea level.Surrounded by gorgeous mountains, including the highest mountain of Styria-the Dachstein(2995m above sea level). From Ramsau you can drive up by car to the starting point of the cable car which brings you up to the Dachstein Sky walk viewing platform.Car park is at 1700m altitude. The viewing platform is located at 2700m above sea level on the rock of the Hunerkogel. The platform offers space for 150people.The panorama view allows you a view of Slovenia in the South and Czech republic in the North. And of course lots of the great mountains of the alps. The road is a tollway and you have to pay on your way down(unfortunately I cannot remember how much it has been;around 10Euro)But it is worth the ride up in my opinion.
