Glacier Walking, Schladming

winterson Says:  When staying in the Schladming area, don't miss a visit to the Dachstein glacier. The gondola ride up to the glacier is spectacular and not for the feint hearted. Once up there you can either walk, ski (even in summer) or take a guided glacier tour. Another attraction is the...

Giglachsee

Giglachsee, Schladming

sandysmith Says:  It takes about an hour's climb from Ursprungalm to reach the Giglachsee and its hut. This was originally our first idea to walk up here and meander around the lake and back down to the alm. However the scenery was so beautiful and the weather so clear we decided to follow...

Ursprungalm

Ursprungalm, Schladming

sandysmith Says:  Ursprungalm lies at an altitude of 1610m at the foot of Styrian Kalkspitze. We arrived here with the hiking bus - an amazing journey itself as it follows the river along the valley floor and then loops up in never ending switchbacks to the alm - most interesting when a herd...

Beach Volley Ball

Yes even in Schladming in the the middle of Austria there was beach volley tournaments going on - for the fist 2 days of our stay. It really was a strange sight to see sand and net courts set up on a parking lot in front of the Sporthotel Royer (also has 3 bowling alleys). With the surrounding mountain scenery is was quite surreal!
