The highest road in Austria is not the famous Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse but the road up from the Kaunertal along the aritficial lake Gepatsch-Stausee to the melting down glacier at the foot of the Weissseespitze where a few skilifts are operating over some part of the Summer. There are enough choices to eat up there at the Kaunertaler Gletscher in the Summer skiing area but it is far more authentic to do that at the Gepatschhaus and to sit there nicely among the trees if the weather allows it.
The Kaunertal valley is easily reached. From Landeck follow the road upstream the river Inn (directions Reschen/ St. Moritz. The first village south of Landeck along this road is Prutz. At the traffic light turn left and follow the signs "Kaunertal". The road up to the glacier is closed (a few km south of Feichten) from late autumn until spring. You find this information already signposted short before you reach Prutz on the main road from Landeck.
