 | Hintertux Things To Do | Tips 1 - 10 of 19 | | Popular Things To Do | Miscellaneous Things To Do Tips | All Tips (19) Here's a useful tip for people getting in Austria at winter: Be sure you have winter tyres on every four wheels of your car. And also have ready the box of snow chains in the trunk. It was a heavy snow also on the highway, and in Tux, while climbimg from 600m to 1400m snow chains were recommended. I had mine in the trunk :) Leave a Comment |
For addicted skiers this is the place to be for all day skiing (well, the last cable car is at 16:30 so you will leave time for the after-ski party). In Tux you have five ski domains: Hintertuxer Glacier (of course), Eggalm, Rastkogel, Penken Finkernberg and Penken Mayrhofen, in all 225 kilometers of ski slopes, from which 134km medium, 32hard and 59km easy. All of these are lovely, with 'groomed' snow from early in the morning, all slopes are marked and you never can reach a dead-end, there is always a lift or a cable car waiting to get you back to the top of the mountains. And the views .. wow .. I always wondered if to get skiing downhill or to gett off and have some more pictures of the Alps. Leave a Comment |
Hintertuxer Gletscherbahnen In three stages you can reach the top at 3,250 m high, where you find snow and ice allround you also in summer. In the heart of summer skiing is the thing to do up here or hiking down or up the mountain and glacier. It will cost you about € 20.50 per adult to go up and come down again. Children under 6 are f.o.c. Until 18 yrs. reduced fees! The three stage are: The 8-seater Sommerberg Lower terminal: 1500 m Upper terminal: 2100 m Glacier Bus 2 Lower terminal: 2100 m Upper terminal: 2660 m Glacier Bus 3 Lower terminal: 2660 m Upper terminal: 3250 m Leave a Comment |
Only for the maddest skiers (mostly snowboarders), here you can find the steepest ski slope in Austria, having no less than 78 degrees !! Imagine that 90 degrees is the perfect vertical, and from that there is just 12 degrees, so it is almost vertical .. insane !! Leave a Comment |
The Austrian Alps are very impressive during winter time. And here is a good place to admire and take photo shots. I was not very well prepared, I did turned on the manual white balance, but still pictures of snow are pretty difficult to take especially with a digital camera. Check out some of my best pictures with the snowy Alps. Leave a Comment |
Of course one of the best things in Austria, as also in Belgium, Holland, Deutschland, or even Italy, is the local brewed beer. This is called Zillertaler Beer, it is a clear beer. A white non-filtered beer is the Heffe Weizenbier (see the second picture). Leave a Comment |
From Hintertux (1500m) you take the 8 person gondola to Sommerbergalm (2100m), then the Gletscher Bus 2 (Gletscher Bus are 24 person gondolas that travel on two cables) up to Tuxer Fernerhaus (2660m) and then Gletscher Bus 3 - offering the most spectacular views of the Alps - to the Panorama Terrace (Gefrorene Wand) at 3250m. From here you view the Grossglockner (highest alpine road in Austria), to the Dolomites (Italy) and the Zugspitze (Germany). Leave a Comment |
This is the nice 24 person bicable gondola that takes you from Sommersberg Restaurant at 2100m to Tuxer Fernerhouse at 2660m and then from there to the top of the glacier at 2660m. During our holiday most of the time we were 2-5 people in the gondola, so it was very refreshing not to be crowded. In the second picture see the nice mechanics of the gondola (Doppelmayr did a nice thing with the cable transport systems). Leave a Comment |
The Tuxer Sportbus is the bus that you can take freely to move from your accomodation location to the Eggalm Bahn (Eggalm cable car station), Rastkogel Bahn (Rastkogel cable car station) or Hintertux Glacier station. There are a number of stops on the Tux valley, and the schedule is available in any accomodation, very useful to know when to be in the station, good thing is that they really keep up with the schedule. Tuxer Sportbus comes from 8am to 5pm every 15 minutes. Leave a Comment |
The glacier at Hintertux has a depth of 120 meters of ice, in which 61 ski lift supports are affixed. Due to the movement of the glacier - 40 meters per year - the supports are repositioned up to three time per year. The glacier ice is very blue, because all the colours of the rainbow are absorbed by the ice yet only blue hues are reflected, thus the impression of the glacier being blue. Leave a Comment |
