The walking/hiking possibilities in this area are almost endless and suit a wide range of abilities/levels of fitness. There are a number of well (reasonably to excellently) sign posted recommended routes of differing lengths. The signs also tell you how hard the walk is as they are colour coded - blue for easy, red for medium, black for difficult.

This route(and a number of others) starts just behind the village centre in Igls and close to Igls tram stop. The route takes you out across the beautiful open fields to the north of the village and then west towards the village of Vill with it's pretty church and interesting shopping opportunities for strawberries. - We did wander a little of the marked path in order to visit the centre of Vill but it's only 5 minutes so I do recommend it.

After the village of Vill, you walk a little more on well maintained paths through the fields before reaching the edge of the wooded area. The path takes you first along the edge of this area and then in amongst the trees and round a lake (Lanser See) before heading back out on to the fields (but now much to the east of Igls) and you finish the walk alongside the tram line back to Igls.

This was a lovely walk and we had great weather. There are lots of places where you can stop for a rest (benches and other less formal places) and it would be a nice walk to take a picnic on.

The walk is graded as red = moderate difficulty but as it's relatively short it shouldn't cause to much difficulty to most people. There are some uphill sections, but these are quite short.

Equipment: Wear good hiking boots, take a hiking pole and a map. You shouldn't get lost as the sign posts are excellent, but it's best to be prepared.

And of course - remember that the weather in the mountains can change rapidly and a hot sunny day can become very wet in under an hour so pack some waterproofs in your bag that you can throw on if need be.

Always take a bottle of water with you when walking and if taking a picnic, a bag to bring your rubbish home in!

This walk is easier and quicker than the Viller Moor route. it visits the village of Vill to the north west of Igls (starting from the centre of Igls) and the lovely alpine meadows around the villages. The start of the walk also takes you down some of the quiet residential streets of Igls which I enjoyed as a chance to be nosy and look at peoples' beautiful gardens (they are all so full of colour and flowers!) and the interesting mix of old and new Alpine architecture.

This walk took us only about an hour and a quarter but we still managed to get wet! A few clouds in the sky turned to rain and then hailstones and then back to sunshine in this time. I've never before been pelted with hailstones whilst feeling the sun on my skin!
