when out in Innsbruck and it's getting late, make sure you don't miss the Plateau which is is located on the "Viaduktbögen" street. people usually don't go there before 3.30 and if you hit Plateau around 4.30 you can be sure you'll have an amazing time of partying there!
Well I was not sure wherever to put this tip in "Nightlife" or in "Shopping" but as it is a place that has both , but the emphasis is definitely on clubs and cafes. I spotted tho a skate shop ,among the rest ....So the club I went to ,was actually an "after party" club for those that don't feel like going home at 2-3 am . Forgot to add it's called "Plateau" ( Viaduktbogen 51; tel 0512/ 585334)
But here are located aswell -"Bogen 13" , "cafe Weli", "Down Under","Yellowstone"....
Take a night-stroll through Innsbruck, because all important sights are beautifully lighted all night and some of the lovely details in the facade you may see and take pics of best during the night. The Triumph-Pforte might be the first stop of such a night-stroll, when you arrive by train or stay in the Hilton Hotel.
Be careful, when walking through that gate, the arches are still used to drive through by some cars and bikes.
Do not forget to take a closer look also at the art-nouveau-building (Winklerhaus - see my tip under Off the beathen path) next to the Gate - is is not shown on my picture, but its facade looks great also at night !

"Dresscodes" like in the USA are normally not existing in Austria.
located direct under railway tracks it feel like an earthquake everytime a train passes. There are numerous bars placed one after the other. They are open till early in the morning. Either pick the one you enjoy and stay there or play the dangerous game of having a drink in each one ;-)
Seni knew this place from her September stay in Innsbruck. She was rather eager that we find it so we looked up the map, but no Viaduktbogen street was to be found. Well of course we couldn't find it because the street is called Ing.-Etzel-Strasse and Viaduktbogen refers to the construction that carries rail tracks. Smart people of Innsbruck made use of the underneath space - each arch is now home to either a bar or a shop. It might not look very atractive from the outside, but trust me, it's not a dangerous district. Some of the shops there sell very nice, expensive modern furniture!!!
Back to Down Under. I was glad Seni insisted we go there. Very simple interior, but what a cool crowd! Music was superb!!!
Best of all: Vodka-ice 0.5 euros cheaper than at other places :) Didn't try beer or coffee, but I assume all prices were considerably lower.
At one point some people danced on the bar, waiters & waitresses were very friendly and easy-going, ..........
Highly recommendable!!!!

Casual might seem too fancy here!
It's around 1a.m. and bar you're sitting in is just closing but you still don't want to go home... well... this is the best place for you!!!!
Down Under is just one of many bars and nightclubs in the Viaduktbogen (it's under the Viadukt train is going over) and it's totaly crazy just as the whole street is!!! When I was there I had an impression like some local guys who used to hang together on the street came to idea to open a bar for themselves and their friends... and it's just like that... really really really relaxed, friendly and totaly crazy!!! With great music and quite cheap drinks!!! Perfect!!!!!

it really doesn't matter. You can come dressed up as you wish and nobody will look you strange!!!
