Located under the Patscherkofel summit is the Olympic track for bobsleigh and skeleton. Built for the winter olympics of 1964 and1976 in Innsbruck - Igls. It is the host of intenational and world competitions for Bob ,sledge and Skeleton. Open both in summer and winter.
When you see the Patcherkofel, It's easely recognisable as it is the only round summit for miles with a TV and Radio traqnsmitter station on top. It has always reminded me of a giant "Germknodel "- an austrian sweet round cake with jam and coated with vanilla cream :)))

ski places i recall mostly small under 3hr away

by delcity Updated Jan 30, 2006

ski places i remember mostly small plus a few mid size and large. these places are less than 3 hours from innsbruck. note some of these may be closer to salzburg or lichinstein than innsbruck..
andelsbuch., au,lanterns, mellau, schruns, kappl, vandans, ,all have 7 to 11lifts.
vandans was and still is a good place for beginners.
runs at the other places ok for beginners . ok to good for other levels
finkenberg, krimml, 7 lifts or less ,runs ok at beginners level . ok to good other ski levels.

obergurgi, zell am ziller , are very good for beginners and each have 20 lifts.
runs at the other levels are very good and some are very very good.
lech , is very good for beginners and has more lifts than zell am ziller .
runs here at all levels are good to very very good.
schrocken ,with few less lifts than zell am ziller i recall as being good on most runs and a couple of very good runs at the blue, red, black levels.
nauder, with about the same number of lift as zell am ziller has runs about the same as schrocken.
neustift in stubaital i recall as being very good on the beginners runs , however the web sites i looked at rate the beginners as ok and the run on the other levels as ok good.
    it has 20 lifts
tschagguns i recall as having good and very good runs only at beginners level
the web says they now have some very good black level runs . but no runs in the levels between beginners and black.
zurs, has more lifts than neustiff, but the runs as i recall were alway mostly ok with one or two good at each level. the web page says the runs are still the same.
st anton am arlberg is larger than lech and zurs only went there a few times . there was many very good runs there each time i went. reviews say there are still many very good runs there at levels above beginners.
