Innsbruck has been the host for the winter olympics in 1964 and 1976.... At the Bergisel Stadium you will find the rings and the flames. well ok the don´t burn anymore. But who knows? Maybe Innsbruck will get the olympis a third time one day.........
Inside the stadium there is a monument with the names of all medal winners.

Well, I don´t know much about the Tyrolean history, but as Lothar told us Andreas Hofer was the man who freed the Inntal from the Bavarians.. The Tyroleans used to drink wine from hte south of their country instead of beer, and everyone knows the Bavarian drink beer.... So it was a war about alcohol, not for salt or something the Inntal was famous for......is this really true??? Who knows? Maybe you will get the answers in the museum on the Bergisel.........

Going to the ski jumping stadium is a must when visiting Innsbruck. We took the elevator to the top, and even though it was a grey day, it was a fantastic experience. Both the view and the construction it selfs was worth the trip. There were some trouble with the elevator when we were going down and we has to take the stairs down. Then we really got the feeling of how steep the slope is.

Innsbruck is of course well known because it hosts the winter olympics, and one of it's landmark is the Bergisel Ski Jump - here seen in the far left of the picture

This is the actual view one jumper must see when preparing to jump. You have to be there to feel the real feeling. Well, you might as well jump, if you have the guts :)

The Innsbruck Olympic Ski Jump is very interesting. But there's a somewhat steep climb to get to it.
The view overlooking the city is incredible, though. You can see almost everything in the valley.

Head out and see the sight where the Innsbruck Olympics took place. Probably not as spectacular in summer as it would be in winter but still allows you to imagine what it would have been like.
