Wilten Collegiate Church,
Innsbruck
by antistar The abbey consists of the Collegiate Church (pictured) and the monastery. The first monastery on this site came about in 878AD. The legend is that a fight broke out between two giants, the local Tyrsus and a Germanic immigrant, Haymon. Haymon caused the death of Tyrsus and as atonement he is said to have built the monastery in Wilten. A statue at the front of the monastery reflects the legend, showing Haymon holding the tongue of a dragon he has slain. The baroque church in the picture was built in 1665. Leave a Comment
